"dumbestics"
tyler what did you turn 13 this week? the fact that one of the most well knowledged import based sites on the internet is disagreeing with you is proof enough that you lose.

You also obviously didn't read the annual reports, not that you could understand them. You really should make an effort to read them. Based on how amazing dumbestic companies are and how much you believe they're at the top of the universe, you should probably put your money where your fantasies are and throw it all at them. I wonder what kind of dividends a bankrupt company pays.

Safe to say that you also didn't read the annual reports.

Has Toyota done anything productive in any real racing series it has ventured into in the last decade? F1-Nope. Le Mans-Not there. Nascar-Nope. Mainly because their street cars blow ***, so they have nothing to base a road race car on.
Now let's talk about the "last decade".
What affordable sports cars does GM produce right now? None. The F-body is long, long gone. The Corvette gets $10k tacked onto its price tag with each successive model year, it is by NO means the affordable car you wish it was. If it was actually affordable, you'd be driving one, but you're not. While it's "relatively" cheap, compared to $200,000 Ferraris, it's still grossly expensive and outside of all but the richest people's price ranges. The GTO was an utter failure and is no more. The Cobalt SS bombed harder than anything in recent memory and was also discontinued. The Sky Redline and the Solstice GXP are also grossly overpriced for what they are, which is probably one of the main reasons for their pitiful sales numbers.
How about Ford? What do they make? Nothing. The Mustang has always been the high 14 second, super shitty handling laughing stock of the "sports" car world and the new GT is no exception. It's moderately quicker, and substantially higher priced. The Focus SVT is also gone so they don't even have a sport compact competitor anymore. I won't even mention the GT because we all know what those cost. However, I have to give it to Ford for actually making a few respectable cars and for their racing accomplishments in WRC. Unlike GM, they actually have the money to finance real race teams in real race series.
Then we come to Chrysler. The only one of the dumbestic companies with a successful affordable sporty car (the SRT-4). The SRT is no more. Replaced by that new monstrosity. How it will sell has yet to be seen. As for the Viper, it was never really affordable, but has now been priced off the map into Ferrari and Porsche territory, into the land where it fails miserably. The Charger was a weak attempt at a modern muscle car. At the end of the day it's nothing but a slow family sedan. Then there's that Crossfire, what a joke that thing is.
Explain just one thing to me. Dumbestic resale value. Why, if dumbestics are the best cars in the world, do they depreciate 10x faster than an equivalant Japanese car? Why is a 2005 Accord with 30k on it selling for $20,000, while a 2005 Impala with 30k on it goes for $13,000? Why do even super popular and in demand dumestics like SRT-4's suffer from extreme depreciation, leaving their owners selling low mileage, 3 year old cars for candy and a smile?

Re: this is funny...
F body, or what remains of it, is coming back in 09. Wouldn't even consider buying one until '10 though, just because the bugs need to be worked out on that platform. I am looking for the Camaro to come out with at least 4 engine packages... 3900 V6, 5.3L V8, 6.2 LS3 V8, and whatever the SS/Bluedevil/Stingray Corvette is going to get for a kind of Yenko heritage model. The GTO in the end was one of the best stock for stock performance/dollar cars made. $32,xxx brand new for an LS2/6 Speed (only mistake they made was charging more for the stick) making 400hp was one hell of a deal. Only issue sales wise was the similarity to every other Pontiac/GM/Chevy car out other than the Corvette. All manufacturers need to produce unique looking cars again. Look at the golden age of automobiles, 1950s/1960s. Every car looked different from every other, and they sold like hot cakes at 7am. Pretty sure going more than a decade back, Ford did sweep Le Mans with the GT40", and Shelby raped the Ferraris in ever other series the two competed in. Of course, my dream car is a 1965 Shelby Daytona, ever since I saw one at Sebring in 2003 (1 of 6 made, according to car collecting uncle, 1 of 5 left, and he knows the current owners of the Sebring car). So maybe I am biased, but in terms of racing history, American iron has the major edge over Japanese manufacturers. I do wish Toyota would come out with an updated version of the 2000GT though. Best looking car that has ever come out of Asia (To prove I'm not biased). Even some of the older Datsun roadsters were very appealing to the eye, even though they looking like the MGB/Triumphs of the time.
Speaking of little british cars, big fan of the Sunbeam Tiger, would love to own one someday. Maybe one of the best "affordable" (comparitively) vintage road/race cars ever made. And the two countries involved in it? Britain and the U.S.A. That car, along with the AC/Shelby 289 Cobra (and later the 427 FE Cobra) just goes to demonstrate that any car can be improved by shoving the largest V8 motor you can into the smallest foreign chassis. Which might be the major sticking point of the discussion.... Chassis Developement- Overseas > USA.... Motor USA>Overseas. IDK, I'm drunk as hell, and hope this post demonstrated some semblance of intelligence
