I think this arguement is pointless...
some of you guys just need to pick up a book and read... Your bashing a car based on it's name plate , not engineering.. it's ignorance more than anything.
no motor in history has been more successful than a pushrod V8 , none make more power either. I know it sucks becasue it is low tech hill billy ---- but they work.
U see any top fuel cars with B18's in them? they can't get to the power levels.
displacement is still king...
A friend of mine runs the 1 lap with a 1st year z06.. he has run it every year and the car has no mods...over 100,000 miles on it , hard track miles ... the thing has never broke.. it rattles , it has the fit and finish thatis on par with a Lada.. but it's dead nuts reliable..

btw. if you had a clue. you'd know that the 620hp ls9 (zr1) is 6.2l and the 550hp ls9 (CTS-V) is 6.2l also

also, my daily z24 i recently sold which was bone stock needed nothing except an alternator and is still going strong at 200k. you can make arguemnts for either side alllll day

its nice you wanted to further prove my point by dragging diesel motors into this.
you know why that 12 liter diesel motor is reliable at 700tq? BECAUSE ITS BIG, BECAUSE IT SPINS 2200RPM.
now yes, you could make a 5.0l motor make roughly the same power, but you're going to have to do it in a much different way, by spinning the motor much faster, which makes it much less reliable at those power levels.
this applies to gasoline motors as well. that is why the typical 5.0l 500hp 11k revving ferrari motor is very very unreliable compared to a 500hp 7 liter motor that revs to 7k
