+1 on the engine management. You are a hardcore ----------er who gets the job done, but if you can tune it you won't have to work on it all the time.

My latest photo...

I have a piggyback engine management, the PerfectPower6. It controls MAF signal(fuel) and retards timing.

As for blowing the last few big horsepower motors, I suspect fuel issue, not EM. I have changed the fuel rail setup to parrallel setup, and now have a good hookup for injector testing, so the injectors will be tested soon. And the last motor was a crazy *** build that was simply an extremely successful (minus the broken pistons) experiment. Lots of internet people told me it wouldnt even run! But it did 12.5 @ 112! Repeatedly! With a bad clutch...

So this motor is just way better, and I will be getting injectors either new, or flow test the current ones, 100% diagnose vacumn/boost leaks, and so forth while I rebuild the tranny.

I really want 400 whp out of this motor. C16 is an option to do it, I never drive the damn thing anymore. And I probably can get "sponsered" by Rallitek an get a decent or free deal on some EM from PerfectPower since getting 400 whp is 300 more than the stock ECU does.......

You can read individual plugs and see whatever you need to, likewise an injector test box off the Matco truck is at most $60. You can deduce whatever you need to off of meauring flow volume and observing flow pattern, and DIY cleaning is dunking the injectors into an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner w/ a solvent bath and pulsing them with the tester.

Update....

Drove the wagon to the KuhmoStreetWarrior Car show today!

Took a 1st place!

I suspect I was the only entry in my class ......

But back to the motor....

Turbo is blown. Have to rebuild it. 95% sure the seal it blown. If I even get on minor boost it smokes to high heaven. But if I just use the supercharger, no smoke.....

And by the way, a 2.5 block with supercharger alone at 9 psi is pretty damn fast!

Well, took the turbo out...... Is it blown? Is it not blown? Do I know anything about turbos?

Yeah, don't know **** at this point. The odds are the turbo is leaking.... but no proof....

I am going to make a short exhaust connector from the borla head to the 3" back exhaust so I can see if the smoke on boost is turbo related or motor related.....

Not having the wagon at the strip sucks.

----

The word of the day is "pintle cap". Ok, 2 words.... But gee whiz Uncle Henry, those damn things are useful!

Whats the pintle cap used for? Well, it may protect stuff, it may helpt with atomization, but its real purpose? It keeps the DAMN O-RINGS ON!!!!!!!!!

When I first modified the STI 550 sidefeeds, I installed them, and NEVER had a problem. Was pushing 120 psi fuel pressure plenty of times. No problems. Blew a piston, new motor, no problems. It was on the 4th motor that suddenly, just on start up the o-rings started popping out of the fuel rail. I thought I fixed that problem with new o-rings. Nope. Even though it "worked" for about 75 miles, on Thursday I had a bad bad failure.

I had driven the wagon to the exhaust shop, where they built me a turbo bypass tube. And suddenly the wagon ran great with no smoke! I was elated. The engine was running close to perfect, other than really rich on boost (was tuned for 30 psi, not .

Then pulled off after about 15 miles, and was idling fine. Then.....

Horrible idle, HUGE clouds of white smoke. #4 injector popped the o-ring out and was leaking continuous fuel into the cylinder. I managed to drive it far enough to get to the side of the road whereupon I stopped and popped the hood hoping for something simple. Nothing reared it head so I started it up again and tried to go a tad further. Made it about 3 blocks and pulled over cause it wouldnt even idle.

Then the possible bad thing happened. I let it sit long enough that all the fuel under pressure that could leak into #4 did so. And when I turned it over to clear the fuel out, it hydrolocked. But it wasnt running thank goodness. I stopped turning the key, went "WTF?", turned the key again, nothing happened (cause it couldnt) and sat there pissed.

But, I let it sit sometime longer, gave it another shot, and it turned over fine and dandy with no bad noises. I had disconnected the ingetor and the fuel pump.

Then, for the first time in my life, I had a personal vehicle towed! Since 1985, I have NEVER had to have a vehicle towed when it broke down on me. I was always able to fix it, or drive it home. Not bad for 20 some years of driving!

So back at the shop, I yanked the 2 fuel rails and deteremined 100% that it was a bad o-ring. I tracked down Doc Injector, a "chain" of fuel injector repair shops and was able to get pintle caps for cheap ($8 for 12), and fixed all 4 injectors, and then while I was at changed out another axle (right front).

I also changed the oil for the 3rd time in 100 miles. :furious:

Finally it was time to start it up. Perfect, or close to perfect.... Idled just fine, just a puff of smoke. So I let it run for about 5 minutes, then went to drive it up to get gas.

Hmmmmmmmm, why it suddenly SMOKING SO BAD I CAN"T SEE BEHIND ME AND PEOPLE ARE POINTING?!?!?!?!?!?!?! I mean its BAD. Horrendously bad. I can't believe it, its so BAD. I didnt even make it to the gas station it was so bad, I just turned around and drove back to the shop. A the shop, I let it idle, and it just barely puffed any smoke. Revved it some, no smoke.

So I tried making to the gas station again. As soon as I hit some load, it stated to smoke again, but not nearly as bad. At this stage I hoped the smoke is simply the excess fuel in the exhaust burning off. There was so much gas in the exhaust when it was towed it was dripping out.

So I got my fuel and drove around just a bit (had to get my kids) and even got on supercharger boost twice. Still smoking, but less.......

And then on the last 20 block drive home, it seems to have stopped smoking...... I am hoping the rings just needed to reseat again, combined with the crap in the exhaust burning off.

So..... if the smoke is 90% gone, I will be racing it tommorrow on the 15th at the last night of drags at PIR for the year. I will be running supercharger alone, since I have proven 98% that it was the damn turbocharger leaking. I will be mid 14's probably, the supercharger seems to only be boosting to 8 psi right now

---

Well, some good news, some bad news.

Good news...

13.1 @ 105 on only 14 psi! The new motor is a monster.

The bad news...

No 12.999, darn....

Good news....

Didnt blow the motor up...

Bad news.....

Alot of oil in engine bay, but probably from the turbo....

And on the clutchnet.com pressure plate?

Great news!

Doesnt slip one tiny teensy bit.

Bad news!

I no longer have 1st gear. :furious: ol:

The final bad news...

PIR is shut down for the rest of the year, which is

Good News.....

Because now I have awhile to rebuild another tranny. ol:

---

So the story is kinda funny.....

I roll up for my last run of the night. It would NOT have been the last run as I wanted the previous run to be my last run, but I missed 2nd and was shooting for the damn 12.999.

So I roll up to the line, open my door and shake hands with the control guy and say "Thank alot! Have a great winter!" Then I roll up to the line, line up, rev up, drop the clutch and !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I roll off the line barely, get it into 2nd and continue down the line. But obviously not fast. I make it to the end, turn off and look under the hood. Nothing obvious. Try the gears. Stuck, but I am able to **** with it long enough to get the transmission into 2nd and roll out of PIR. I am damned if I am going to get towed! I get on the freeway, shift to fifth and cruise! The noise is weird, not a single vibration that you can feel, but a nasty loose rattle that is rhythimic to the rpm....

So I make it about 15 miles or so back to the shop and am finally able to try 1st.

NOPE. All it does is "CRRRRRRRRRRRRRR". Good thing I have an extra tranny or two! And alot of downtime... haha. Although it is getting to be a bitch pulling the motor because there is so much crap in the engine bay now. haha.
