Yeah, I melted another piston, this time a MAHLE. Actually, I probably just cracked a ringland. Not sure why, but I suspect two pulls on 89 octane (jackass filled it with regular) @ 26 psi started the whole ordeal which slowly led to the piston death.Anyway, the old motor had the wrong thrust bearing, was cracked and leaking out the top of the block......
New motor is an 06 block, forged rods, STI crank, JE forged pistons, ACL racebearings, and supposedly better flowing heads....
We shall see.
I am taking care of some issues this time that I either neglected, or never had time to deal with as well.
More power?
Eh, I was never able to put the existing power down due to the bad tranny mounts, so I would be happy just make the same to start.

Almost running....
I changed exhaust manifolds, which meant I needed to change steering racks, and I just havent had the time to deal with it. I ended up with a 2007 WRX/STI steering rack but that meant I had to cut and weld the U-joints cause the 1990 steering column and the 2007 rack have different spline counts.
But....
It steers again!
So this weekend I am going to try to get the new motor in....
I changed exhaust manifolds, which meant I needed to change steering racks, and I just havent had the time to deal with it. I ended up with a 2007 WRX/STI steering rack but that meant I had to cut and weld the U-joints cause the 1990 steering column and the 2007 rack have different spline counts.

It steers again!

dam this is one gagster *** build i started liking subarus but then i dont too many engine swaps lol and axles just like hondas but then if done right from the start.. nice build but i dont think i would be able to re build something like this so many times i know im perty crazy at this ---- cuz everyone around me gives up when im fixing my broke down ---- but dam NICE JOB MAN
