I used bearing grease on mine, it turned into carbon then it sealed.

I have been having a v-band that goes with a JGS 50mm gate kicking my *** for 2 days. I'm tigging it, down to low amps (like 45-50), crisscrossing, letting it cool, and clamping it to the gate so tight I'm afraid I'm going to snap the band. And there is no way to belt sand it as the wastegates valve seal has a notch that stick out that goes into a machined slot in the v-band. Real pita setup, but a big gate for the money

They do make gaskets. You could also cut your own out of a sheet of gasket material.

If you let 1/4" of pipe stick out of one of the vband flanges so it can slide into the other flange before you put the clamp on it may eliminate any leaks even with a slightly warped flange.

now idk if there flanges are different size, thickness or material then the ss tial v band flanges. but i have never had a sealing problem or warping problem when i weld them.

i set my amps at 85 and use 1/16th 308l rod. i just do 2 passes to get a big enough weld. i go around the whole thing then let it cool with a fan, then go back around it again. start to finish i have about 10-15 min in the weld.
