sealing up v bands
Couple questions. After welded some warping is to be expected. I have a flat bed belt sander which I used on the v bands and flanges. All of the flanges were easy except for the v bands due to being on long pipe and awkward to hold. Is there ways that I can make 100% sure that these will seal up? or should I have them go to a machine shop?
Could I use high temp gasket maker when I slap them together? When I get them coated should I remove the coating thats on the v band mating surfaces aswell? Thanks guys. |
Re: sealing up v bands
should have slow welded it with wet rags to keep from warping i also saw a right up on a web site about welding v bands, how bad are they post a pic

Re: sealing up v bands
I always weld them bolted together super tight. Even if you need an extra one just to weld with. If you mill it down it probably won't seal.

Re: sealing up v bands
how much seperation is there few mm then you might be able to just mate them extra tight when clamped

Re: sealing up v bands
if you machine any thing it will never seal, next time weld alittle then dunk in a bucket of water, not cold water either
