I think you got this backwards. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe his old motor had block posts. His new motor is filled.

I understand the whole block posting and filling. I also understand that you had to drill in the holes through the filling after the fact. Since you have done the block filling ordeal, do you think there would be a much more efficient and safer way of making those holes rather than drilling through them? I was thinking of putting straws or sticks in before pouring in the aluminum??? Just a thought. Reason I ask is I'm thinking block filling my LS block...

Beau, wanna share the secret method y0?

Looks good Z6ef. How did you heat yours so it would harden? Did you do it as crx304 stated using heater's etc.?

z6efboosted 05-08-2005 09:33 PM

Re: Filling Block..... How To

i put mine straight in the oven at 200 for 4 hours. i think it turned out good ;D. thanks to crx304

;D

Re: Filling Block..... How To

i did it just the how to. put the gasket on and put small indentions in the filler. took it off and went to town. ;)

Re: Filling Block..... How To

looking sweet...

Now its time to clean up that block a lil bit! haha =)

How hard is that aluminum filler? Is it the same hardness that you would expect on the block?

Damn im debating hard about this sh!t.

z6efboosted 05-11-2005 09:53 PM

Re: Filling Block..... How To

it looks alot harder than what it really is. give a try. ;) the more you think about it the more you turn away from it. i woke up one day and said im going to fill my block and its done now. its kinda hard to get that aluminum filler because its a business to business sale only, luckily where i work had an account with them ;D. if you cant get it for some reason let me know and we can work something out so you can get it ;)

I'm very interested in this block filling, and i'd just like to ask approximately how thick does the filler get and wouldn't it be just similar to installing a blockguard in the middle part of the sleeve?

not very good idea in 100 degree heat..unless it's strictly a track car

Bring in the water injection a little earlier, then. Given enough water injection, the engine's cooling jacket becomes nonfunctional.

I mean, we are all doing this because we want more power than knock limit on pump gas, yes? Not because we think it'll be safe to push a sissified 300 whp on...

I meant exactly what I said. What's so confusing?

B16CRXT 06-11-2005 10:37 PM

Re: Filling Block..... How To

so the block is fille only about 2", 3/16" from teh top? Damn, this is tempting. I think I'll buy a messed up LS block to try this out on.

*****UPDATE*****

car has been driven a total of 4k+ daily driven miles, and for the last week and a half it has been 90+ - 100 degrees here in Michigan and is holding a stable medium temp w/ t-stat installed

decided not to boost over 15psi anymore due to last blown headgasket.... yes, it was a cheep NAPA one. but, i'm also still running a 14b and what's the point of pushing over 15psi on that? i like efficency...

on a side note... i ended up running my friends 2nd gen eclipse FWD. he has a 16g, Slo-boy ported ex mani, Tial WG, Greddy BOV, Greddy FMIC, UR racing pulleys, crower cams, TI retainers and doulble valve springs, Slo-boy kevlar clutch, and DSM Link..... needles to say, i was very un-impressed. on the first run i pulled at least 15 cars on him up to 110mph. on the second run, i pulled an easy eight cars. yes people saw it... it has been a ongoing saga between us two, and the day finally came.....i was peaking @ 12psi he was peaking @ 11psi..... all in all, it was a fun night, and yes, he was pissed when we went back to the garage..... he said that "it just gave the motovation to come back stronger and whoop my ass".... and i replied....... " Bring it"

hope this brings some confidence to the ppl who want to try the Filled Block" all i can say is thank you JEFF...ABAZ, for the idea and the info on how to do it.

so what would you recommend for not popping the headgasket? think one of the copper ones will hold better?

B16Drag 06-13-2005 07:38 PM

Re: Filling Block... How To.... UPDATED

not sure if mike is using arp headstuds but if he is not, that might be a good starting point. Looks like I'll most likely be doing this on my next bulild.. we shall see... i mightuse some CHOPSTICKS to make those holes though! haha!

Ah, yes, the 3200lb 16G propelled pigwagon is a match for the 2000lb 14B CRX, yes?

He'll have to ditch the 16G before he can touch you. It's called power to weight.

MLS.... is my choice. I've been under the impression that copper hg's only work if you o-ring your stuff too.

I'm using the Cometic HP HG.

Re: Filling Block... How To.... UPDATED

Also if you having some high temps issues then run Redline water wetter and maybe a colder t-stat?

Tom-Guy 06-19-2005 07:17 AM

Re: Filling Block... How To.... UPDATED

Water wetter just reduces surface tension, so that thick coolant flows more easily into those oddly shaped nooks + crannies inside the water jacket. It's $ and an item hard to find on an auto parts store shelf. Substitute acetone as needed.

Colder thermostats rock! If you're a richman, those aluminum radiators with a ~20 psi radiator cap also help a ---- ton.
