Re: Filling Block..... How To

you have to make a relationship w/ a machine shop to get good prices. Bring in a couple blocks/heads and watch the prices drop

CRX304, any dyno testing planned for this. Maybe eventually when you upgrade your turbo? I'm seriously considering doing this to a spare B18b block and am curious to know how well it will hold up. I'm not asking anyone to go blow their engine up on a dyno for testing, but I'd like to see some dyno sheets of filled blocks and at what pressures these things can handle.

Check out your local Napa. The small rinky dink place by my house has a machine shop in the back that's 3x the size of the store and when I went in there the floor was covered with tagged blocks and heads either waiting to be worked on or finished. The prices at Napa are also pretty damn good, much better than a lot of speed shops charge for labor alone.

The two at summit are for cast iron blocks. The have " an expansion rate very similiar to cast iron".

Re: Filling Block..... How To

Which expands at a rate most similar to stock sleeves, aluminum or cast iron?

gordo172 03-30-2005 10:40 AM

Re: Filling Block..... How To

so then i would use the one from summit for the f22b2 block right?

the aluminum block is getting filled so you would use the aluminum filler. the filler is not attaching to the iron sleeves.

Re: Filling Block..... How To

Ah, good to know. I just might do this then.

Re: Filling Block..... How To

Well I wrote Moroso Tech about the Moroso Block Filler and they stated, "It can be used in both, cast and aluminum blocks."

i just hit 1000 miles on the built/boosted/filled block. still running w/ t-stat in, and we actually had two 70* days..... cant wait till it's 90* out to let you guys know how things are working out.

beau runs a filled b16, 33psi and i think it was like 460whp, 25* timing.

Wow very nice. So much for sleeves ;D Now I just need to get the used CP's tested at the machine shop for the scuffs.

Re: Filling Block..... How To

if i dont have anything to put it in 200* temp, can i jus do room temp for a few days? or sumthing else?? any ideas... i dont have anything to bring it up to 200 degrees.

absolutezroo 04-06-2005 03:31 PM

Re: Filling Block..... How To

on the moroso stuff it actually just says to let it cure at room temp for a few days...nothing about 200 degree temps

Re: Filling Block..... How To

yea daily driver my bad. i would like to do somethin like this but i would be driving my car every day. recomendations?

bumblezc 04-08-2005 09:38 AM

Re: Filling Block..... How To

Well crx304 is "testing" it on his car for daily driving aplications.

I think alot of us are waiting to see how it turns out over the summer. I know I am!
But either way, I would probably want a spare block arund just in case.

sounds good how much boost do you run daily like 15-17psi?

blundar was telling me about a Cincy shop that had a turbo B16, stock block, DSM 450cc, AFC hack, racegas, leaning into the 14:1 AFRs, 445 whp. So?

Filling the block SEEMS like a good idea in my mind, but there isn't a big enouh body of evidence to support that yet. Stock sleeves are weak, period, is all I can state when it comes to Honduhs... everything else is opinion, conjecture, etc. I plan on filling a block at some point, but in the meantime lets not bandwagon hop.

Re: Filling Block..... How To

my setup
stock bore b16 "speacil top secret mod to allow for a deper fill"
moroso block filler
used factory head gasket "top secret gasket spray"
used factory head "bolts"
tubonetics 60-1 (33psi on the dyno 28 at the track)
running a T stat
as far as cooling goes if i have the thing fully warmed in the pits ad have to wait in the staging lanes for say 15min i can barley get it warmed back up before a run
sitting on the dyno for hours it only over heated once when the guy in the car forgot to switch the fan on

from my experience i would totaly recomend it for any low budget racercar from reading crx304's experience why not try it out.

Beau

Ah, you can't give in on at least the TOP SECRET mod to fill the block lower?

whiterice 04-21-2005 11:38 AM

Re: Filling Block..... How To

if you needed to get your block milled, couldnt you fill the block upside down up to the water line.
then any excess on the deck surface would be milled off. seems like it would get maximum amount filled.
?

?

please explain how to fill it upside down......

absolutezroo 04-21-2005 08:04 PM

Re: Filling Block..... How To

it makes sense if your getting it milled...however don't you want space left at the top of the fill and the top of the block? :-\ if you filled it upside-down then you'd be flush with the block

TorganFM 04-21-2005 09:31 PM

Re: Filling Block..... How To

How would you even fill it upside down? Pour it through the hole that you normally tape up?

thats what im guessing...:P

bumblezc 04-26-2005 01:04 AM

Re: Filling Block..... How To

I think if you wanted to fill it upside down you would seal the top of the block with a peice of steel/wood/plastic, flip the block upside down and somehow fill the block using pressure through the water pump inlet to get it everywhere throughout the block.

My guess is it would be more effort then it's worth!!!!

BLACKSI 04-28-2005 09:58 AM

Re: Filling Block..... How To

a little space at the top of the block is not going to hurt anythig, besides thats not were you need the support

Need updata, hows that shiznit running?

Re: Filling Block..... How To

it's running great!!! 3000+ daily driven miles in 60-75 degree weather @ 15-17 psi.....looking to upgrade the turbo now! temp gauge hasn't gone above 1/2 way whatsoever w/ T-stat installed.

cant wait till the 90 degree days!
