no im proving the point of banning it in those environment. Even if you are allow or not allow that still would have happen. allowing it would just make the matter worse.

Watch the news. No one new anything about him yet they new he was disturb with all the ---- he was writing. Its not the problem of students arming themselves the problem was people no knowing how to handle the situation and not giving the proper authrities the power to arm themselves.

Just as i keep saying students and teacher shouldn't have to arm themselves. And its easier to say "yeah if we could carry guns that would solve the problem." no it doesn't. Have you live in or went to an environment were it is like that? I'm pretty sure you don't have any experience in that and don't want to be put in that type of situation

the whole problem here is not whether or not guns should be allowed, or even that if they were, this wouldn't have happened.

its about public safety, which is put into the hands of campus personnel, and the fact that they didn't do all they could to prevent this from happening. if there is a murder on campus, and you have an armed killer on the loose, classes shouldn't be continued as normal.

many people here lost loved ones, and many kids lost parents. let's try not to turn this into a gun debate.

The bottom line is NO PLACE IN THIS COUNTRY IS SAFE. Not a school, not your workplace, not the ------' mall, not even a church. You can not make a NO GUN ZONE or whatever they want to call it. I own two pistols. I KNOW HOW to shoot both of them. I enjoy shooting them frequently. I know that it is wrong to go shoot a person or persons with my firearm. I believe that EVERY PERSON knows this. It is a matter of some people JUST DON'T CARE. THAT is the problem with this country. NOT GUNS. Alot of the 30 and 40 year old adults in this country have raised a generation of snotnosed, egotistical, "I DON'T CARE ABOUT ANYTHING OR ANYBODY BUT MYSELF" attitude possessing ******. POINT BLANK...THIS COUNTRY WILL NEVER BE SAFE AGAIN...Not for you, not for me, not for our kids and not for our kids' kids...AND YOU CAN BLAME THE LIBERAL "YOU SHOULDN'T SPANK YOUR KIDS" and "EVEN CRIMINALS HAVE RIGHTS" IDEA QUOTING **** FOR THAT...It's a sad, horrific, UNEXCUSABLE thing that has happened, but don't let the memory of it happening slip too far into the back of your mind, BECAUSE IT AND FAR WORSE THINGS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN...Prepare YOURSELF AND YOUR LOVED ONES for the terrible times we live in...

Essay written by a VT student in August of 06:

http://www.roanoke.com/editorials/commentary/wb/80510

Unarmed and vulnerable

Bradford B. Wiles

Wiles, of New Castle, is a graduate student at Virginia Tech.

On Aug. 21 at about 9:20 a.m., my graduate-level class was evacuated from the Squires Student Center. We were interrupted in class and not informed of anything other than the following words: "You need to get out of the building."

Upon exiting the classroom, we were met at the doors leading outside by two armor-clad policemen with fully automatic weapons, plus their side arms. Once outside, there were several more officers with either fully automatic rifles and pump shotguns, and policemen running down the street, pistols drawn.

It was at this time that I realized that I had no viable means of protecting myself.

Please realize that I am licensed to carry a concealed handgun in the commonwealth of Virginia, and do so on a regular basis. However, because I am a Virginia Tech student, I am prohibited from carrying at school because of Virginia Tech's student policy, which makes possession of a handgun an expellable offense, but not a prosecutable crime.

I had entrusted my safety, and the safety of others to the police. In light of this, there are a few things I wish to point out.

First, I never want to have my safety fully in the hands of anyone else, including the police.

Second, I considered bringing my gun with me to campus, but did not due to the obvious risk of losing my graduate career, which is ridiculous because had I been shot and killed, there would have been no graduate career for me anyway.

Third, and most important, I am trained and able to carry a concealed handgun almost anywhere in Virginia and other states that have reciprocity with Virginia, but cannot carry where I spend more time than anywhere else because, somehow, I become a threat to others when I cross from the town of Blacksburg onto Virginia Tech's campus.

Of all of the emotions and thoughts that were running through my head that morning, the most overwhelming one was of helplessness.

That feeling of helplessness has been difficult to reconcile because I knew I would have been safer with a proper means to defend myself.

I would also like to point out that when I mentioned to a professor that I would feel safer with my gun, this is what she said to me, "I would feel safer if you had your gun."

The policy that forbids students who are legally licensed to carry in Virginia needs to be changed.

I am qualified and capable of carrying a concealed handgun and urge you to work with me to allow my most basic right of self-defense, and eliminate my entrusting my safety and the safety of my classmates to the government.

This incident makes it clear that it is time that Virginia Tech and the commonwealth of Virginia let me take responsibility for my safety.

its not uncommon for carry weapons on school property to be an expellable offense. it is here in florida.

i'll say this for the last time, students entrust faculty with their safety while in class and on campus. if something unsafe could occur, ie. a double homicide before class starts, classes for the remainder of the day should be cancelled and the campus should be in lockdown mode.

it's very unfortunate that it takes such tragic events to teach us these type of things.

Some people just don't get it.

- The fact that a student *could* have been carrying a gun would more than likely deter many people from going psycho on campus. Not all, but if the number is at least one, it's worth it.

- Calling any place a "gun free zone" is the equivilent of saying "nobody will stop you, should you decide to shoot this bitch up".

- People who go through the process of getting the permit to carry a gun has been through training, knows when and when not, and the notion that the drunk football team is all carrying guns is stupid. The football team *could* be carrying guns, but if they're dumb enough to shoot someone while drunk, they haven't gone through the correct process and they aren't legal to carry the gun anyway. (Which is something anyone can do). The legal guys tend to be smarter than your average quarterback.

Stealthmode still has my vote for president. He's a Smith so he can speak on my behalf.....unless his sister uses his computer and starts asking "who likes having fingers up their ***?"

P.S.

This gun law debate is still retarded. If you want to kill someone, they're probably getting killed, even if they are packing legally, they're not expecting to have to use it.

There's always explosives, knifes, poison, vehicle and several other means to frag some people regardless if they're packing heat or not.
