Incorrect. You linked to a paper that performed fantasyland calculations based on misinterpretations, using incomplete formulae, with no actual testing done. The sad thing about NACA reports is that some of them are summaries of actual testing, and some of them are conjecture mean to liberate some federal money so that researchers could get paid to do something more than make interesting claims. You are discussing the latter, which is why the paper is titled "CALCULATIONS..."

What I have referrenced is an actual experiment that burned 15,000 lbs of fuel before pen hit paper.

Reading wet-thermometer IATs and treating them as remotely realistic is very much not proof. I refer you to page seven of Per Andersson's paper on poppet valve EGR systems, which you should have read in the first ------- place.

Thats funny since the paper I cited was written by the main guy that wrote the paper and did the experiments you cited. Hmmm... he wrote the report I cited 2 years after the report you cited....

In fact in 1945 another experiment report was issued that used an actual engine as a test bed instead of a single cylinder test engine, NACA MR No. E5E18 . This experimental set up would be very similar to doing water injection post compressor and pre intercooler (done right). Seeing that the experiment you cited showed no significant drop in IATs with the same wet thermometer problem shows that this isn't much of a problem after all. Also once the thermometer was wet an increase in coolant added wouldn't increase cooling unless it was in a linear manner and test data shows its not linear.


Here is what they found and a diagram of their set up.
