Firstly, to everyone that said shut up, fine, in this thread, i will :-) happy? sweet! :-)

I'll try to keep this one short.

The stock manifold is worlds above other manufacturers poor excuse of a manifold
THIS is the arrogant BMW owner in you speaking ;-) THIS is what I refer to. You are not alone though. Strangely every breed of car has members like that. I feel the same way about "omg mazda is the greatest ever" types too. same for nissan. same for toyota etc.

No, YOU fail to understand fluid dynamics.

Short runner manifolds increase your HP up high but your torque falls of a BUNCH.
Disagree with the "bunch" part of that. just expose the ports to the world and you still have reasonable VE... Good port desing improves on that somewhat. Wikipedia says 245nm and 250nm for these engines in NA form. That is above average yes, congrats, but the worse you would do on virtually any 2.5l engine is about 200nm, and that would be a really bad one with worse than just open ports. air having low inertia is a great thing.

Thats all, i'll just sit back and watch :-)

Apologies to the sort of dudes that fall asleep during (not after) sex ;-)

I think you like hearing yourself talk honestly. I am not arrogant because I know that the CFM flow of my factory manifold is considerably higher than the average. The only other stock intake manifold that I think is a very nice efficient unit is the stock 2JZGTE unit. There are tons of BMW manifolds that DO NOT flow nicely. For instance the M20 and M30 manifolds. I am not a BMW elitist. I just know what works on my engine and what does not. We have a guy with my same engine (2.9L) with a STOCK head running mid 9's on the weak IRS E36 chassis. It's a great flowing head from the factory and more often than not the DIY type manifold assembly and DIY type port and polish screw up your flow, not help. It would take me more research and money invested than I feel it is worth to come up with something that I know is PROVEN to make work better. It is, therefore, not critical to me.

Thanks for the compliments guys!

Here are updates!

I went out and bought (4) 500w halogen lamps. They worked awesome for heating the engine bay. I just finished masked off the exterior and some interior of the bay. Then I wiped it down with this prep-all stuff Jay said to use - worked out nice it took up all the sanding/lacquer residue. Then we used Eastwood Black Chassis satin black paint. The engine bay was then covered again for a while and it dries

and finally...

That's going to make a big difference once the car is together! Fresh clean black paint will make the motor and stuff stand out so much more!

Then we realized its Saturday and Jim should have finished assembling the motor so we went over to look and... HE DID!

Nice cross-hatching! Rings gapped for 30 psi + ~200 on nitrous

No more messing around!

Oh I almost forgot!

This puppy is going to be up for rent
