Honest question: Does your car have an idiot light for oil pressure?

OK back on track.

Block is done. Cylinder walls were fine, pistons checked out, rods and bolts checked out.... soooo.. had her honed and the block is ready to go. Head needs to have 1 plug hole insert put in.... putting new bearingss in it, new rings, and as it didnt smoke or anything before, I expect a healthy bitch again.

Only questionable thing is the crank. The main and rod jourtnals are fine. slight polish is all it needs, but the snout where it drives the oil pump gear appears that it may be damaged... not sure if its damaged alot or not... the flat area that the gear drives from... I need a pic of it so I can see if the edges were rounded off detrimentally from the oil pump gear failing..

I have another crank a buddy is going to give me but hes not sure if its an A1 or A4 crank (50 vs 55mm mains)... Id really like to use my crank, as it would help simpolifuy and speed up getting this thing together, but need some information to make a good judgement.....

PICS PLESE NIGS!

The flat area is still flat, and I know the edges of the flat area DO round into the round main diameter of the crank snout... But the question is HOW MUCH flat area should be present before the crank is junk....

BDV, post pics of your crank. it might be easier that way rather than trying to get a pic of something that is rarely out of an engine

+1

Secondly, there are only two factors here really :

If the rounding off is not even then there will be matching uneven forces in the pump that will help it destroy itself
The further from stock you go, the more the crank twisting in there wants to split the pump in half and the less it wants to rotate it.

Post the pics and then everyone can take their guess as to whether it will screw you in the long run. Perhaps post an end pic with the pump or pump gear slid on so it's in context.

I dont need 6734256943675946596534956439 opinions. I need 1 pic, that way my opinion (and Ross') will be the only ones that mater and I dont have to listen to ------- retards spewing about what they dont know.....

ACTU&ALLY.....Cranks at the machine shop, and the shop of choice ( being pretty far down south) makes it impossible for me to get there during the week....as I have a J O B....

I do agree with you Fred, hence the concern.... But still, Id lioke to see a pic. If it appears to be even slightly fucked (which I think it is) It will have to be changed.
