So I just took it out and drove it up and down the freeway once....... about 8 low rpm pulls, never more than 4500 rpm...

First annoying problem...

Down pipe is too "long" and exhaust hits the most minor of speed bumps.... I will have to pull the downpipe off and cut about 1-2" out of it. I will fix that pinhole leak around the downpipe turbine side flange while I am at it...

Second annoying problem...

Seems to be ALOT of oil getting jizzed everywhere.. Since its night, and now I am home from the shop, I couldnt look for where it coming from, but I am pretty sure I need to install a different bango bolt into the block, or make an inline brass restrictor.

Third problem....

Not sure, havent driven it long enough...

THE GOOD NEWS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

IT WORKS!

Its fast as ----

8 psi at 1500 rpm
11 psi at 2500 rpm
16 psi at 3500 rpm

16 psi stays rock steady....

Its fast as ----!

4 extra psi is alot!

And I still havent taken over 4500 rpm!

Now to fix those problems, and get a boost controller.....

Well, actually that would have worked if you had paired the roots blower with a centrifugal blower made to spin up top.... and it would probably have been easier to tune than what you're doing now.

But what you're doing now has huge power plus that insane torque potential that you won't have with the turbo alone.

One thing, all those who have done this say you simply can't get away from using a bypass system. It's actually not at all complicated. All you need is some more tubing, a pneumatic diverter valve and a recirculating valve for the Sc. It's a pneumatic setup: at the beginning the turbo is not spooling and the pressure from the SC keeps the valve closed. As the turbo spools, the pressure of the air from it pushes the valve gradually in the other way, closing off the SC (which then spins freely) and allowing the turbo to spool completely. I know I'm not being to clear but I can send you a diagram if you care.

So keep up this great project, and good luck!

Ooops, didn't see that you've got it working already. Great!!! Very well done.

(Anyway if you later add a pneumatic bypass system you'll have more power up top.)

You are the reason this site is here. Excellent work. I turbo'd my neighbors 2.5RS a while back. But it got lost in the crash. We did the same thing with an up pipe.

Massive oil leak...... Huge puddle under the wagon this morning, drove it to the shop and just backing up it puddled up!

It appears that it was coming from the banjo bolt fitting..... I didnt (or didnt when I installed it) tighten up the adapter to the hose... So I did.... And I press fit a section of brass into the banjo bolt and then drilled it out so I have a smaller banjo bolt (I was using a water one)

But I have to fix the exhaust first, because the cat is only like 1" above the ground!

I foresee a new trend in HMT

who wouldn't want 16psi at 3500rpm??

Seeing as how there isn't significant power until 4500 with my engine of choice, I'll pass. :P

Ok.... "good news"

90% sure I fixed the oil leak, thank god. Had a banjo bolt that wasnt tight where it connected to the oil line, and I was using a waterline banjo bolt, so I turned a brass insert, pressed it in, and drilled out a much smaller hole.... Not leaking now I think....

Redid the ENTIRE exhaust....CHRIST, if I could have, I would have paid an exhuast shop to do it. But I lifted the exhaust 2" up, so now its about 3" from the ground, still way too low, but fine for city driving... And I cut out the catalytic converter, and when I looked in it, IT WAS HOLLOW!!!!!!!! WTF?!?!? I have no clue how that happened. I didnt hollow it, I couldnt have since I didnt have a working welder until recently.... And I still passed DEQ... ?

Then I took it out again....

"bad news"

Putt putted it too the on-ramp..... got to third gear, at 2000 rpm, floored it.... Jump straight to 8-9 psi, then 12, then right up to 16, and it held it PERFECT to 6200 rpm, where I shifted.....

And POW!!!!! Blow off the ------- intake at the MAF.... So, I either need to install a 2nd BOV, or more likely, reinstall a WOT switch for the supercharger... I suspect that while I let off the throttle, which should give the BOV a vacumn signal so it would open, the supercharger was still getting a tad too much boost signal, and so stayed on for the split second it took to overboost the intake system, and blow off MAF. No big deal.

All in all, I am pretty damn happy. The motor and pull was amazing. 16psi had no knock.. I am 100% sure that 20 psi is going to be fine come this Saturday Dyno Day, as long as I get these damn annoying pesky problems out of the way.
