How difficult is it rebuilding a turbo?
I can get a Garrett t3 that was pulled off a Ford turbo chicken from a friend for 20 bucks. It could probably be used the way it is but it could use a rebuild since it does have quite abit of shaft play on it. I've looked around for rebuild kits and there pretty cheap like under 100. Now my question is how difficult is it replacing everything? I've torn down my old IHI and cleaned it up and had the exhaust housing bead blasted and cleaned and polished the compressor housing but never took the center section apart. Should I just send it out or get a new center section or just do it myself? I'm just worried it's gonna be out of balance if I do and take it all apart and it's not gonna last long. Help!

The bearings need to be pressed, and it should be balanced as well. If you are not worried about shaftplay, only gaskets, you can do it yourself.

I took a turbo apart and put it back together and it makes spooling noises when I ---- with the throttle when my car actually starts, so I'm guessing I did it right, so if I can do it you can too.
