Default Questions on rebuilding a turbo, parts...

I have a 14b from a 91 eagle talon manual, and I wasn't sure of it's condition when I got it so I decided to take it apart. I would have marked it so that I put it back together the same way, but the nut was already loose and this turbo has been apart before, it looks like someone just cleaned it. Anyways, I completely disassembled it, all the bushings / bearings look good, the dust cap is in good shape, I cannot tell any damage or excessive wear except that one of the fins on the exhaust turbine has a small chip out of it.

My questions: Do you think I'll be okay using the chipped exhaust turbine? Also, what are some places / prices for balancing a turbo? Do you really thing there's a serious risk to not balancing it?

Thanks in advance.

i would highly suggest getting that balance done.
you'll have to find a local turbo shop to get that done.
search in the yellow pages or something. we don't know where you live

if you don't balance it the turbo could rip apart at 30,000 rpm's, and that would be it.

BTW i paid $85Cdn for the balancing.

www.turbocity.com for the parts if you need a rebuilt kit.

usually like cheapturbo.com or someone like that can do the rebuild for you too. Either that or find a local machine shop that can balance the shaft and re-assemble it yourself.

in perspective, the greddy 15g rebuild kit from turbocity was just over 100 bucks shipped.

I wouldnt worry about the chip, and put the thing back together. It will probably last for a decent amount of time. Rebuilding the thing may cost to much, by the time you buy a rebuild kit, send the wheels/shaft to get balanced your gonna be well over 100 bucks, you could almost find another turbo for that price in better shape.
