Re: Got my 14b LS back from the Dyno!!

Classic case of using a turbo that's too big on a motor that's too small for it. I have a book of tests this guy did trying different turbo combinations on a stock b16 tuned with a hondata ecu on a dynojet. He made his peak power out of a t3 .63/.60, 15psi made 347hp. He then swapped to a t04b and ran it at 15psi after tuning, and barely broke the 300 mark. I wish I had a scanner, I'd show the dynojet results...but I'm a poor bastard :P
I've been doing some thinking though...this LS block I'm trying to build is going to take way too long to be done by spring, so I'm going to try that little 14b/7cm^2 combo on my b16 and see how it does instead. A little less displacement, slower piston speeds, I wonder how far off from a d16/14b setup it'll be. I know it'll be more cfm needed than a z6, but hey...worth a shot and it'll be cheap as ---- for me to build :-\

oh yea i was thinking to hard and hurt myself

turbo would have been cool iv you can get the revs up. i was going to 7800 and it would still fall out of boost inbetween gears. and thats when people would pull on me

Smaller exhaust a/r probably woulda made a world of difference on it then. Massive cfm with a quickness ;D

When full-race did their PINKS sohc, they couldn't do much with an sc61, then make a crapload more power downsizing to a 57 trim. I'm just sick of pussies getting huge turbos and running 6psi. Max the turbo out, or go buy a bmw. Braging about having a huge turbo [when running low boost] is like bragging about a 10" dick that even viagra can't make hard.

BTW just want to say something about the maps posted. The 14b was said to 'own the garrett all over the board'. Here's a 'thousand words' for ya... ^-^

still not anywhere near its effeciency on a sohc though, for that turbo to be at full potential on that motor it would have to seen 34+ psi its the exact same turbo cft runs on there 10 second race car fully built b series on i believe 32 psi or 28 psi

Full-Rice doesn't know a whole hell of a lot, despite their claims. They frequently build 700 whp cars that can't get out of the 10's.

Yup. A lot of people get all pissy-pants about spooling turbos to or "past" their advertised limits, but at ~34 psi on a SOHC I'm pretty sure that'd still be ~60% efficiency, and at that point an SC61 would be making more power than T04E. Spool time and great midrange power mean jack ---- at that level because it's - newsflash - a drag car. Pull a shitload of timing out of the lower rpms to get it to spool a little quicker in first, then put the timing where it needs to be in the operating range. For a turbo that size on a 1.6, you can manipulate spool time as much as 2000 rpms by timing retard, all at the expense of drivability, which doesn't matter on a drag car.

Ya I was talking to an old buddy of mine last night and we were talking about all these full race cars with 700+whp running high 10's. His old 84mm b16a that was around 475 whp was a 9.60 car back in 99-01 and the car was far from light. Running your normal run of the mill t3/t4 turbonetics turbo, log manifold. Full Race is hype kids.
