turbo EF9

and i have a D15B ecu....i wonder if i can use the same approach as u did to mod it? thanks a lot

Re:Free ECU Modification Programs!

You can mod any ECU. All manufacurers make some sort of communications port out of thier ECU. This is because at the factory, they do diagnostic tests from the ECUs.

Let me see if I can address everyone's questions..

anyone manage to get it working on an 88-89 ecu yet? just curious for those of us having a hard time getting our hands on a 90-91 ecu.

>> I havne't heard of anyone getting it to work on that ECU yet. With the forums and ducoments I have read, it's really a pain in the butt to use that ECU because program that stores the fuel and ignition maps isn't stored in the microcontroller, instead of an external EEPROM like the PM6 of the 90 - 91 Civic.

As for getting your hands on one? Try eBay. They seem to be going for about $50.

curious to know about something.........so this ecu chipping/mod is only applicable to what sort of honda car , year of make and wuts the ecu number ? thanks a lot.....so i guess it would not work on other kind of makes like mitsubishi/toyota/nissan etc........thanks for your patience

>> Well, as far as Honda is conecerned (I don't know anything about other cars) in theory you can chip almost ANY OBD1, and OBDII ECU. As for OBD0 ECUs, the only one I have seen people chip is the PM6 of 90 to 91. That is what Ghettodyne is made for, as of this posting. I'm sure Mike will have more ECUs supported in later versions. Everything is still in the early stages. As for EcuControl, Nick is already supporting a few more ECUs. Which ECUs can be seen on the EcuControl Website, in the "ROMs" section. http://www.ecucontrol.com

Good luck everyone..

Here is a complete write up on the process of chipping your PM6.

If you have an questions, or comments, or if it looks like something is unclear, or I just plain forgot something, reply here. I'll fix it.

so can u reprogram it to see boost and whats the total cost of chipping the PM6......and for a D15B wut ecu will it be running? thanks

Thanks TurboEF9. Really. If I hadn't seen this post, I'd be 1000 bucks poorer. Also to Mike (xtensive) for making this all possible. I write software for a company, and I know that it can be tough. Esp what he has done! ASM isn't much fun.

I've already ordered my 'spare' PM6 ECU off ebay for $50 bucks. This way I don't screw up on mine. My dad is helping me with this too, since he is an electrical eng., he will have more experience in this. He claimed that they have a ROM burner at work (Dupont), and we can use that... Not sure if it's the same, but we'll see. I'm about to order the ZIF socket, some ROMS, and the port kit to tap into. This will be a fun project I'm sure.

Re:Free ECU Modification Programs!

Hi all, V1.04 which will forever be know as V1.4 should be done soon. The stupid BattleField1942 expansion pack (Road to Rome) has ruined my weekend ;D

As for chipping 88-89 ECU's it *IS* possible but requires an Oki 85C154 chip which basically is an 83C154 (88-89 MC (MicroController) ) with a piggyback slot for a 28 pin external EPROM. Unfortunetly they are hard to come by and not cheap. Currently the only thing stopping us from using a re-programmable Atmel 89C55 MC is one stupid proprietary ASM command (A5, Mov bit in reverse order). The Oki 83C154 chip that is used in the 88-89 ECU's is the only MC under the sun that I can find that understands this whacked out instruction, thus making it impossible to burn the program to a similar MC.

In the 90-91 ECU's they ran out of room in the 83C154 chip so they used an Oki 80C154 MC that still understands the A5 command but relies on an external 28 pin PROM for the actual program. Bonus for us. Blundar, aka Dave, is working on a completely A5 free version of the code so that would make it possible to chip the 88-89 ECU's with a 40 pin MC of another flavor (Atmel, etc). I'm pretty sure this is what Zdyne does, but cannot confirm. Don't lose hope, Dave is a busy guy but is on the case, and 88-89 will be "chipable" eventually.

Mike

great stuff! i just get confused when you put in that ecucontrol thing.. like where do the 4 wires go?> u have tape over it. could u snap a pic without the tape?

Here you go..

http://www.driftkids.com/pics/DSC00669.JPG

That is the connection to the motherboard of the ECU at the CN2. The 4 wires have a specfic order. Make sure you get them in the correct order. Or it's sure to not work. Might even fry your serial adapter.

Re:Free ECU Modification Programs!

Don't suppose it works on a 1991 EDM D16A9?
Its code is PP5-E01.

Ive got a feeling it won't as the ECU board looks a bit different :-[

Thanks.

Anyone have the schematics on the RS232 adapter?
