To TurboEF9:

I got a couple questions here. I've never done board modification, so bare with me.

How do you desolder something?
How are you soldering them back in? (tools)
What does the ROM look like? How do you load them into the ECU? (port) (I don't understand the ROMS!)

I want to do this same setup with my '90 Rex so I won't waste a thousand bucks on Zdyne. I sure hope Ghettodyne comes along nice!

1) Desoldering is actually easier than soldering! Stop by RadioShack, pick up a $2.99 roll of "Copper Desoldering Braid". It's along peice of thin braided copper. When you lay the end of the braid on the soldered connection, then put the tip of your soldering iron on the braid, it'll heat the copper, then heat the solder and literally suck the solder up into the braid, removing it from the board! Leaves a nice connection, ready to be soldered again.

2) To solder back in, once you remove all the soldered connections with the braid, just drop the 28 pin socket back to the board, and drip a tiny bit of solder on each of the connections. (This will make more sense once you get right in and do it)

3) The ROM (EEPROM, Eletronic Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory) is the black chip with the little "legs" coming off of it. It's sitting on top of the blue cradle in my picture.

4) To load them into the ECU, I bought a ZIF (Zero insertion force) socket (the blue cradle in the pictures). This makes it easy to swap out EEPROMs without bending the legs. There is alittle lever on the side, you lift it up, and you can just pull the EEPROM out, installation is reverse of that.

Hope that helps you out! Good luck!

Nice work! GhettoDyneV1.04 will be out by tomorrow hopefully. I just need to set aside some time tonight to test the hell out of it before release. Hey, you mind if I steal a few of your pics for GhettoDyne's website? Credit given of course ;D

Is this program useless for me? I have a p28 in my 95 EX, SOHC VTEC.

Thanks!

HA! You can use whatever you like. ;D I'm TOTALLY anticipating your release. If you need anything else from me, just ask. I'll snap pictures, write up a complete install, anything you need. I've had a great time researching all of this. I'm learning a lot, and hopefully everyone else will.

That would be sweet if you could write up a complete install. I get most of it now, but there's some I still don't understand. If you decide to do so, please let us know! Thanks man.
