Sad news on my ECU modification..
My ECU seems to be that of an 88 CRX.. Interesting because I asked for a 91 Civic Si when I bought it form the parts place. I didn't know the difference until I started getting into this modification, or that there even WAS a difference. Oh well.. Now I have to obtain a 90 or 91 ECU.. Cheapest I can find is $100. :-\ Not sure if it's worth it when I have my P06 on the way.. Maybe I can convince the guys to write a datalogging ROM for the P06.. Who knows.. |

FYI, the difference between the 88-89 and 90-91 ECU is an external PROM chip. The 90-91 program is a bit bigger and it wouldn't fit on the internal microcontroller used in the 88-89 ECU's so Honda added an external PROM chip to house the program, and left the microcontroller to simply execute the code. Bonus for us. We are working on a way to utilize the 88-89 ECU's as well but aren't quite there yet. We can chip them, but it requires additional hardware that makes it very cost-ineffectve. Eventually you will be able to use 88-91 ECU's so don't throw them out! Dave, the curator of PGMFI.crx-forum.org is busy re-writing the op codes that we need to do this.
Boost is currently working but still has a few bugs, such as jerking when going into or out of boost with light or part throttle. The fuel/ignition routine for boost seems to be working splendidly tho, just a transitional issue I believe. Stay tuned... Mike |

where and how do you get this chip ? Like I can prolly get the chip from my local electronics store but where can I program it and lie that stuff. They have a prgorammer but what do they do to it?

I am starving hearing what you guys are talking about... No ones know if I can do something with my P06 ( I did had it chipped already ... addes 28 pins socket, a Eeprom, few resistor and capacitor and another chip ) but I had to remove the Eeprom to have it rechipped, nothing like ghettodyne usin a laptop.....

[/quote] The reason the P06 hasn't been used with Ghettodyne, I think, is that the values for the fuel, ignition and so on are in totally different memory spaces than that of a P06. The file that you open in Ghettodyne is an image of the memory stored in the EEPROM. Ghettodyne takes this image, and pulls the values it needs, and puts them in a readable format to you. When you make changes to the values, it then saves them back in the format EEPROM needs to function. Then the file is burned back to the EEPROM, and it's "none the wiser". Maybe one day he will adapt his program to identify the P06 ROM image, and have Ghettodyne mod it. I hope so.. I have a P06 I want to get installed.. but then again, if I already have complete control over my PM6, why install the P06? Hrm.. |

can this be used on B series motors? what about the vtec engagement?
I have a 94 GSR with a 1st gen B16 in it and it would be nice to have a cheaper system than hondata when I put my turbo on! |

So far.. I have only seen SOHC ECUs.. P28 being the OBD1 ECU that seems to be the "best".
I'm not sure if you can use a P28 to control a DOHC. Since cam timing is mechanical, and the difference would be fuel, which you can mod, then I would "assume" you could use the P28 to control it. Would just have to mod the fuel and ignition maps. |
