Reassembling tranny cases

Re: Reassembling tranny cases
I can't get the trans housing down far enough to even have trouble with the snap ring. I have been experimenting a little bit by taking pieces out and trying to put the cases back together to try and figure out exactly what is preventing me from doing it. I can't really pinpoint it yet. I tried Mista Bones trick, but it hasn't worked yet.

Re: Reassembling tranny cases
in my pic, dead center, the shaft has to be properly seated. Then the trick is getting it to align with the outer case to drop together. Also make sure everything for 3-4-5 gears are lined up. Just one gear slider out of place won;t allow the case to goto together. Try forcing the case with the bolts and you destroy everything.
THE BAD NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First you have to do this without any sealant on the case halves. Once figured out, take it back apart the use Hondabond or Ultr Grey on ONE SIDE of the sealing surfaces. You have 20 minutes to get the case sealed up properly or you have to TRY AGAIN!
I Hate B trannys!
It is semi simple, but hard to explain. Best when shown in person, aka hand on training.

Re: Reassembling tranny cases
I have been trying to get them back together without the sealant just to be sure I could do it Something that I find odd is that the bearing on the end of the mainshaft kept getting stuck in the trans housing, I had to use my slide hammer to get it out which wasn't difficult, but the bearing actually fell apart after the third try, so that has to be replaced now as well. As far as I can tell everything else is lined up on the shafts, but I can't believe that the housing will simply "drop" on. I tried sticking a screwdriver in between and lining up the shift piece but with no success. I will keep trying, hopefully I will get it since I have a quite a few transmissions laying around that need work. If not, I guess I can always ship them to you Mista Bone! Where in Ohio are you located anyway? My dad lives in SW Michigan which is quite a bit closer than Milwaukee.

If everything is actually lined up will the housing pretty much just drop on? I put the cases back togother with just the diff and it went on easy, tried the same with just the forks and it went on easy, tried it again with diff and forks and it went on easy, with the main and countershafts on it just doesn't seem to go.
