Default D16 vs B18

I know I know... this has been addressed a million times but my situation is somewhat unique. So here it goes. I've got a D16Z6 with the following: Cast Iron T3 manifold, T3 .46/.48 yada yada. My clutch is rated up to 350hp. My dilemma is this:
With my goal being 270-300hp, should I stay with the D16Z6 and throw some TT rods and vitara pistons in it. Or Should I start fresh with a LS build? Of course if I did the LS build I would need new manifold and new clutch + internals...
Just would like some solid input on this ,guys. Is 270-300hp DD a good idea on a D16? I've been told by my local guys that I'm an idiot for thinking that would ever work out...

sohc option is $250 for rods and $150 for pistons, rings, bearings.

ls option is far more money and far more gay.

i agree, ive thought about an ls as a dd with no power adders at all. but then i look at the sohc and how plentiful they are. d15's, d16's, even the gay d17's are out there. now that fjt is making some custom rods for usdm d15's, im gonna rock a built d15. put a hmt kit on it and roll around with 250-300 hp daily and pull great millage out of it. nobody ever said you cant have 300hp and drivabilty. even a hmt stock d15/16 is great.

Yeah I was hoping thats what you guys would say. I'm currently pushing 5psi and still get smoked by hatchies with GSR swap in them. I'm afraid to push it any farther on boost right now... I guess I'll just build the d16 and throw the d15 back in until its ready.

just keep what ya got in it now, find another block, and keep the d15 as a spare if you possibly blow the one in your car now......better safe than sorry

I spike one time to 7-8psi and later I noticed some slight over heating. So I'm afraid the HG was at its limit. It has 188k miles on it I think. And I'm running a ------- FMU... you think 7psi DD is safe for this?

best think im my opion would get a chipped ecu and get it tuned and turn the boost up to like 12#s. i ran a 42 48 on my y8 with stock injectors to 16#s just crushed the fpr to get more pressure lol. worked like a charm but i also had a chipped ecu. it ------ rocked first setups rule.

how long did that setup last you? stock internals right? stock fuel pump? stock HG? I'm trying to figure out how much I can squeeze out of this bitch... and make it last long enough to build a better one.
