There's versions of Windows 7 Build 7000 floating around, but it's only the 32-bit version so I'll be waiting.

I still don't see the big fuss about Vista, so haven't jumped on the anti-Vista bandwagon, but 7 is supposed to be an improved Vista with better resource use.

Just the fact that many things were way to similar to XP I guess I was hoping they would do something a little more different.. Mostly little stuff that I guess doesnt matter but it seemed like they tried too hard to meet a deadline. For example the display properties is exactly the same as XP - kind of lame for all the hype that was put into it. Also the file system was gonna include WinFS but they left that out late in the game

Well, you gotta realize most people prefer things to stay the same. Even if they move things around to make it "easier," people **** and moan that it's more difficult because it's not where they're used to it being. Windows 7's taskbar has both your closed and running application shortcuts similar to MacOS. I hope to hell that's optional.

Truth, there is some added functionality as well... I too really like Vista. Just as any MS OS offering, It takes a miknuter for most issues to be adressed, but thats what happens when you build something from the ground up. XP was a departure form the old NT code, Vista is entirely different than the XP base. 7 is based on Vista. It will be/is a leaner more robust Vist basically, with added support for hardware, Media Center, and a few other neat features.....

Jorsher PM me, I can get you something you might like to run and take a look at.

need some help guys...

so i just dl'd vista "extreme" and ran into a problem when adding RAM...

maybe its my MOBO, but I seem to have a problem adding more than 3gigs of RAM. (1 x 1gig and 1 x 2 gig)

supposedly the MOBO can handle 4gigs so i dont know (Gigabyte GA-945GCM-2C)

as soon as i put in 2 x 2gig sticks, i get an "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" error message. i have swapped out every combo of ram of what i have, and all sticks work just fine individually or any combo of up to 3 gigs. as soon as i go over that, errors pop up like crazy and cant even get to the desktop screen.

all sticks of ram are ddr2-6400 800mhz and NOT cheap sticks.

ive updated my MOBO drivers in vista and so on, and nothing will work.

i assume that since the board will see 3gigs fine, it should be able to see the 4th gig ok too, am i wrong?

any help would be great.

Def a hardware error... At least its just the ram. Either one of those sticks doesnt like running at that speed (if its not an identical pair) or the mobo is trying to make em both run too fast. Thats a budget board and prolly doesnt have a lot of options... Start by putting in the pair of 2gb sticks, go into bios, and set the speed down a little on the memory if you can. Its gonna be funny if you cant

And was that version of vista 64-bit?

Is it the motherboard that gives that error or the OS?

Does the BIOS see all 4gb?

32 bit version

the error happens as the Vista splash screen is coming up. It is a blue screen, that say, error "blah blah blah"..."IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL"..."blah blah" hardware install of new device"..."blah blah"..."take out and restart"..."blah blah"...

yes, the bios see's all 4gb
