painting ur car

Re:painting ur car
good write up...
For all those who say "dont do it if you have to ask?!"
Why are you on a Homemadeturbo website?
For a first time job stay away from Complex paints like 2 stage urathane, etc stick with Acrylic Enamel, and make up with lots of clear coats/wet sanding. The Acrylic Enamel is going to be very forgiving
Also dont think of it as painting a car, think of it as sanding and taping a car with painting thrown in for $hits and giggles...A good pant job is 80% sand and tape and 20% paint. So concentrate hardest on these procedures and do not continue on unless you have spent a few 8+ hour days on each.
Go find yourself a specific automotive paint supply store (one that sells only auto paint) and ask the sales person for help. Some of these guys (and at one place around here they have a girl that knows more than all the guys) can pass on a lot of helpful hints

Yeah going to a good apint supply place is a big help. When I first started painting ----, they gave me sheets with mix rates dry times sanding grits for each step written out in plain english. It was a huge help and I still have it. Just go in explain your new at painting, and they'll help just make sure they know you don't expect a show quality paint job pr they'll think your a know it all shmuck. An I got a great hvlp gun for $100 fom my place, it's a knock off of a 400 dollar gun and it works great.
