I want to paint my car its a 91 Civic Hb. I don't have a spray gun so I was thinking of just using spray paint. I am gonna do it flat black. What I need to know is when I sand the body how do I know when I have gotten through the clear coat? How long should I wait between coats? I am gonna do a coat of primer spray paint first before the flat black.

Just hit the wholecar with some 320 grit and then go to town. Julio did a nice write up on the flat black spray bomb.

primer, 1 or 2 layers, sand, 1 or 2 layers, sand if needed. why wouldn't u want the clear coat

prep with a good wash and alchahol because you dont want this crap to chip off. 500 gritt sand, since your not going to want to do this twice because it sucks ***. prime 2 even as possible coats. sand to flat, paint sand it again , paint sand, then wetsand with 800-1000 grit . then polish get it nice and even

Well I just finished sanding, primering and putting the flat black on. Took about 9 hours and 7 cans of primer and 9 cams of flat black. Should I get some clear coat spray and go over it?

Yeah I didn't bother to put a clear coat on well if the car gets scratched just bust out the 94 cent can of flat black spray paint.

You should really clearcoat it. that ---- will rub off over time and when you wash it it will help alot.
