i want it to tune a lot of cars and i dont like the fact that you have to have an ostrich hooked up at all times
for us in the know this isnt a problem except that calvin keeps insisting that tthere are "dire consequences" to circumventing his security

Yah, he's worried about all the copyright stuff, and after seeing where everything else is at I suppose he's correct... until you start taking into account how old the OBD1 vehicles are and how less people are building them these days. If eCtune had come out 4+ years ago the HT bandwagon would have been through the roof. Blundell is testing an S100-like CN2 widget that can be affordably mass produced, should make everything much less expensive for everyone involved.
I don't like leaving Ostriches hooked up because a little ignition misfire can put the ECU into limp mode, and the ribbon cable connection gets fucked every so often in racecar or other high vibration applications. It really sucks to have the car throw a ---- fit and be able to fix it by tapping on the socket connection + cycle the key, that's stupid ----.
As soon as the last of the Neptune boards sell Moatsie will be releasing his Demon, which is an Ostrich/HULOG combo daughterboard with onboard bluetooth ability. It'll be nice from a setup standpoint as there will only be one USB COM port (or bluetooth) connection to manage, is supposed to be reasonably priced in light of the current market prices. Neptune/Crome/eCtune will all be supported by it, in keeping with the common hardware platform theme of OBD1 Honda, the way it should be. Another $$$ proposition from your perspective, but the gear is robust and dirt cheap given the larger market.
Seriously, the whole tuning thing is a stupid bandwagon game, and you should stop worrying about prices. If I'm excited about it, everyone who looks to me as their pet tuner wants to use it. If it costs $8 or $800, 90% of the people coming to me will gladly buy it and the other 10% will try to jew me down on getting paid/feeding my family and then roll up with a poorly assembled pile of ---- that takes me three times as long to get lackluster results out of than the run of the mill 400-500 whp car. I mean, yah, I help out the scrappy DIY kids on budgets, but there is a distinct line between them and the cheapass idiots who don't respect the value of certain essentials, or my time. You've been around a hot minute and can command the same control of your local market, and the price increase for your customers is an extra 15 hours at McDonalds wages - irrelevant if you are doing something complex/volatile that you need rock solid ignition timing or extra features for.
