BTW, you got it wrong on every count. It was $150, not $120. Used pistons are not $400+, used pistons go in the $150 range when there is nothing wrong with them. Cotefag posted up a thread saying they were good to go when they were not, and ignorance is no excuse for selling worn out crap, ever ever ever. He LIED saying the reason he did not want them was because he was too lazy to get his block bored and next week he's selling a freshly machined 75.5 mm block which pretty much seals the deal - he KNEW they were bad and was too cheap to spend $400+ on new pistons.

You may know him in real life, he may smile to your face and be your friend, he still fucked me and is keeping the money. Get your head out of your *** and wrap it around that concept, thanks.

Also, I am aware of EGR, not particularly interested in pursuing it right now. It's not a big deal for me as I could do it via secondary maps or GPOs w/ eCtune, hell probably even do a PWM control of the valve via the EBC routine. I don't think it's needed as the piston to wall on the bottom end is spec for a turbo motor, and while 16:1 AFRs burn pretty hot it's making a whopping ~30-50 whp at highway cruise and there isn't a whole lot of thermal mass to hurt anything if I spend a minute dialling in pat throttle ignition timing on a loading dyno.

I might be interested in the 4.25 if this local one falls through. Hit me up with the price shipped?

I don't see 50+mpg with these parts unless you drop the cf on the car to Honda Insight numbers. I'll be surprised to see you getting it running well on 87 octane with 12's compression on a D-series engine let alone running well on 87 octane and get even close to 50mpg.
I'm predicting 38mpg and the need of 89 octane.

Re: JD's assault on a 50+ mpg daily driver.
whats your expected compression ratio with this frankenmotor? if i were to do a build that was all about milleage and not spending anything for fuel i would really look into a little higher compression and E85. i think if you could do something to utilize that 105 octane with some lean burning and high compression i think you could get some "decent" mileage with $3 gas.
ive always wished that i had the resources to piece something like this together and try it but i dont have the time or patience right now.

My guess is JD will get close to 45 mpg.

If JD can figure out a way to avoid detontion while lean burning, he can maybe get 50mpg. Water/meth injection is the best route probably if he wants something quick and economical. As it stands, 87 octane+12's comp+D-series = uphill battle. You can't ignore the fact he is running damn high compression on a D-series motor. On 93 octane they can be fickle at that compression. 87 octane will be a true challenge. I personally see the engine wanting richer conditions than what JD wants to run and in the end, not great fuel economy will be the result.
