Re: this is funny...
high revving, high brake horsepower, low torque engines get shitty gas mileage. the z06 doesn't because it has a usable low end, which keeps you from revving the dog ---- out of it during normal driving.

weight and driving style, and to a lesser extent idle fuel consumption, and excess cruise fuel consumption due to operating outside its optimal efficiency area...
why do you think the prius goes straight to redline when you floor it? its an on off engine, and has the best gas milage by far despite what clarkson and top gear think (i've driven one of those too...) thats because the prius is designed to operate at full efficiency or not at all. 80hp from 1.5 litre with the funky cam timing that has a name, not miller cylce, but similar, and not otto.

Yo dudes, come on. We all know an 89 Si is easily the sickest super car ever made.

Re: this is funny...
yes, i hate it when my car gets terrible gas mileage because it uses so much gas at idle. i seriously hate that.
optimal efficiency area hmmm. so if the c6 z06 just cruised at 6500rpm instead of 1300 at 70mph it would get better mileage since its in its optimal efficiency area

lesser extent...
have you seen the briggs n stratton (sp?) economy challenge? basically they build a really efficient 50cc engine almost however they want, and then operate it at full throttle upto max speed, then they coast for a long while, then at some lower speed set point, they restart the engine again at full noise and floor it up to speed. on flat ground that approach can not be beaten. thats for a reason.
i'll tell you one thing though, i dont give a flying ---- about economy. but i do understand how it works...

Re: this is funny...
i wasnt comparing a prius to a vette... how daft would that be. i was illustrating the point of operating at maximum efficiency...
you might wanna throw the gear ratios into that line up. the bet would have to be that the vette is geared tall as can be.

due to a wonderful thing we call torque
