What you want to do is get it apart... identify the second gear syncro ring and try and push it against the gear (2nd) while spinning the gear - its alot eazsier if the cluster is out and you only spin the gear while pushing the syncro ring against the gear which ashould make it really hard to keep spinning it.
... If its worn there wont be any space between the ring and the gear. you shold NOT be able to get the ring to sit fluch against te dog ring on second gear itself..... if theres clearance and pushing down on it makes it hard to spin second gear, its probably fine...... Check the inside to make sure that the friction grooves look to be there, and that the teeth on the syncro ring look okay... Then Look at the selecvtor sleeve... My bet is that all of the slots are rounded off, thats why its grinding.
Take some pics, I hsve alot of ---- for the H trannys and can probably help you out. The LSD tranny that just came out of my POS had the same thing happeniong... The syncro ring would bottom out on the gear... selector was fine... I simply replaced it and its been SOLID....

Easiest way is to pop the cover set the base on two tables to where the input shaft is between the two tables. Put a old clutch disc on it, then have a friend spin it. While your lookin at the main and countershafts spinning find second gear."keep your friend spinning it just to keep him busy and not ------- with anything.
Then once you find second gear selector have him rotate the disc back and fourth about 2 inches each way and you push the selector by hand onto the engagement teeth. If it dont go. Then its the selector. Then when you get pissed that your going to have to take it all apart to fix. Your friends face is right in kicking distance. LOL
Have fun or send it to Spiker to have his friend fix.
