I think barb fittings are pretting strong. Do people think that barb fitting are really cheap and weak? I think they are really strong. Try pully a hose off after sticking it all the way onto a barb fitting. That's even without the clamp on. I think the strength of someone trying to pull a hose off a barb fitting can equal to many psi's of pressure flowing through it.

Not really.. it's nothing like that..
As a matter of fact, pulling on the hose after you connect it to the barb makes it similar to the Chinese Finger Cuffs. The more you pull on it, the more the center section collapses down on the barb, thus, gripping it tighter to it.
Since the pressure we are measuring is not a force exterted on the outside of the line, but from the inside, the pressure inside will actually expand the center diameter and pop the hose right off the barb. That is what the clamp is for.
Double clamp the hose to barb.. it's best that way.
