Default OIL

Hey guys, thanks for all your help on getting the oil lines together, those were some really helpful posts back a while.

Here's my question-- I bought my oil line, 30$, ss braided, and I had ordered all the AN fittings to the local -----shop. When they came in, the stupid 90* to -4 AN fitting I was going to use for the turbo was $21 so I told him to keep it. Here's my question: Can I use cheap Home depot BARB fittings (one off the turbo, one off the tee) and clamp it tight? Will it hold? My second option is to use one home depot barb from the tee, and put the tube over the stock aluminum oil feed line that comes off the turbo, and clamp to that. Opinions? I'm too cheap to pay another 50$ for stupid colored fittings!

No, I had no idea. Will barbed fittings work, or is the pressure to high?

Johny, yes they will, that is what we use on 90% of our projects, just some high pressure line at napa with some barb fittings, We have never had one burst or leak. We normally double hose clamp them, and make sure the barb is extremely tight over the hose.

I also agree, 75 bucks in a oil feed line is a bit ridiciouls.

Thanks alot for your re-inforcement Jeff. I feel alone when I ask these questions and you always make me feel better about ghetto rigging everything. I mean really, GHETTO is the ONLY way. I like to make beleive I have no money and see what I can make out of it. I don't get why so many people are afraid to be cheap and creative. Just in case any of you guys are wondering what my setup is all about, i'll post it in detail, laugh if you like : )

-It's a Junkyard ebay t3, zero shaft play. Posted a pic before, Jeff you told me you had one-- the one with that stupid circle countersunk around the exhaust inlet port. Ground it to a normal flat flange with a rotary grinder and 5 'super'disks. Spins like it's new, NO in/out play, VERY minimal (can barely see it, just feel it) side-side play, NO scrapage, good blades. It's been factory rebuilt, it's stamped, so no way am I doing it.
-It's going on a 95 Civic EX.
-The manifold is a used DRAG manifold. I blocked off the external wastegate flange with a nice peice of chromed metal that looks like it was meant to go there, and a gasket. Re-threaded all the holes to accept american bolts.
-Drag manifold is weird in that it wouldn't take american bolts either (maybe b/c the paint?).. Rethreaded it too, and attached turbo w/ stock gastket and bolts. VERY Ghetto, but very nice. I wonder if it'll even spool, i'm too cheap to rebuild the turbo..!
-AFC Hack with a set of NOT CLEANED OR BALANCED DSM 450cc black top injectors. Running mint w/o boost as of right now, except that stupid stutter when you let off the gas. Works mint!
-Intercooler that fits so perfect it's a miracle. Got lucky on ebay, need to get ports rewelded.
-GhettoBrand (noname) BOV from ebay. Figured they are all the same for what i'm doing.

I'll post pics if anyone wants to see... I did the mock up the other day!

i would just break down and pay a little bit more for some fittings..
i really dont like the idea of the hose popping off a barb and smoking my turbo and spraying oil all over the dam place.

but its up to you
