i read in a magazine some guy describing the exact same thing mine was doing and he found out it was a head gasket. I changed mine and it never did it again.. may sound weird and i could explain it but it would take alot of explaining to do that.
That looks like a car running a bit rich up top

well in my case i guess it was just the bov gasket. idk how or why but it would let me have boost till around 5k rpm and then let it all go. but now its running great again. besides the clutch sliping whenever the wheels arent. lol plus to tell you the truth i wont be sad if this thing blows up tomorrow even. it has been worth it already. and i got another si motor around to put in. of coarse it will be tunned down i bit. but for now ill go stomp on all the local shop n/a cars peace

Actually boost leaks are a really common ailment in turbo cars. They will make your car run like utter *** if you have a mass air sensor and speed density you just can't build boost well. I was going to say your wastegate was opening too early, but that would have been wrong haha.

eh it happens. but the car ran good till it blew lol. i few days after the 500 rpm deal. but now i have anew a6. well a new 150000 mile a6 back in the car and running strong. give me a week......

p.s. look at the porcelain in the well with a mag glass under a desklamp
