Default d16y8 boost questions

My 98 hatch has around 128k on the engine, in cold start up i hear valve knock, otherwise it runs pretty strong, would i be safe boosting 6.5psi untuned on a completley stock engine? ive researched it and its sort of a toss up but i was wondering if anyone could give me some advice here, its my first turbo project, the turbo is a dsm spec, manifold is d series, everything else is plug and play.

Sounds like you could use a good tune up first. Definately do a valve lash adjustment, seafoam it, get colder plugs, new wires, make sure the cap and rotor is good, and if you aren't 100% sure that your clutch still has life, then do that too. But if you're only going to do 6.5 psi, then you should be safe with the clutch, considering it's not too badly beat. Otherwise get and ECU and do it right, and read.
