Re: Completed SBC HMT (pics)
well today was not a good day.Was planing on running the turbo truck down the 1/4 mile track at bremerton fri but today i had to put the 11.1 to rest. After installing the electric holley blue pump an doing some rippers found out that the carb was running out of fuel at the top of second gear an middle of third.Got the .110 needle an seats an installed em.Also i upped the fron jets from 70 to 73 an the secondaries from 90 to 95.
Let it warm up an took it to lunch.Got lunch an on the way back down our test ground, good old airport road. Was turning up the boost but 12psi an 2.5 on the retard wasnt stopping the ping.Should have had the race fuel but didnt. It pulled really good an my buddy who was with me loved it.So after a couple of boost controller adjustments we settled on 10psi. But the last pull the motor sounded different an idled a lil rough.Lil blue smoke at the light an oil pressure lower than normal. Stood on it from the light an seem to go no problems. As we where puling into the drive to my work i could hear a lil KNOCK KNOCK an oil pressure was 6 to 7 psi.
Pulled up to the bay door an she was rattling.Got some pics an video coverage of the after math.Need to tear it down but i suspect we broke a piston skirt or 2. Ill update the extent of the damage on the tear down this weekend. Now the question is which motor to replace it with.
305 roller cam with aluminum heads an forged pistons
400 with forged pistons an the original slow breathing trailepark 283 heads.
350 stock engine from an 87 caprice?
Ill decide this weekend

those are some interesting choices for motors 305s detonante easy, small heads would choke the 400, but an 87 caprice motor might not be bad, Its probably pretty low compression. If the 305 has good heads, I'd throw them on the 400 if that is an option.

I think ted needs to stop ------- around with ----- small blocks and finish his 520 caddy, you have just about everything man... It's time to try something else!
Oh and the 7 years I've known ted, he has never made a 1/4 mile pass

Finnally got the 350 toren down an what i thought was wrong was even close.I thought i cracked a piston skirt due to to much piston skirt clearance. What really happen was i burnt the ring lands out of 2 pistons an melted the third where it lift an was now hitting the head.
Here is the pics of the sbc carnage of running it lean on 12 psi
