Looks good. You're going to be beveling sch 40 pipes anyways, so it'll work well.

You can, with practice, make really nice looking welds. IMO those "tack of coin" type welds are more from the TIG process rather than a MIG, but I suppose you could just spot weld upon spot weld...

 

i have seen some nice looking mig welds look like a row of coins, so anyone else
think this welder can make it happen?

 

If you've seen a MIG weld that looks like a bunch of coins, you've seen a pulse MIG machine. We have them here at work and they're $$$ and typically only used for Aluminum.

Are you some *** that cares about what his weld looks like (beyond a good quality weld)?

yes i want a good quality weld but it like them to look good too.
nothing wrong with gangsta flux core magic, it just sometimes id like better looking stuff, so nows the time to
upgrade and see whats out there and its capablities.

 

You can make baller welds with a decent mig, but if youre really going for looks over ease of use/speed then get a TIG. About a year ago my father and I got a Miller 185 (?) mig that makes sexy welds, but looking back I shouldve ponied up the extra dough for a tig and kept my older Lincoln Mig.

The miller was about 700-800 iirc, im sure it will last me forever, its pretty damn nice and is very powerful. The 110v Lincoln (135 amp i think, its been a while since i was home) i had before does the job too, but lacks the oomph for really thick ----. Plus i like the infinite adjustability of the miller vs the lincoln's ABCD ----.

 

how much is gas usually for a mig setup

 

well im going to go with a lincoln 180 or a hobart 187 what do you guiys think of these?
