a lot of splaater and probaly a little to weak for making turbo manifolds.?.

Always buy more welder than you need. Obviously anything 220 volt will be enough to do all those things but I guess a 120 volt machine will work too. I have a Lincoln 135 and it does well up to 3/16 maxed out. I am going to buy a Miller 212 in the spring I think. If I were you getting a little 135-140 amp 120 volt machine would be fine. You can pick up a good brand name unit for about $500. Make sure whatever you get is a gas capable machine. The cheap knock off ones are garbage. Don't waste your money.

Ive got a 120V Miller 135 amp MIG that i love. Its very easy to use and their customer service is awesome. After about a month of use the ground clamp pin fell apart and i called them. They overnighted me a new one and included some new contacts and other stuff. It doesn't have enough power to do really thick stuff but for every day things its perfect. I can also take it anywhere and plug it in anywhere. The cheapest place i found was cyber weld.

I convinced my parents to buy me a helmet for "safety" so they covered the cost of a Miller big window elite which i also really like.

I have that same craftsman and yeah it's a little small but it's done everything I've needed. I've made charge pipes, my exhaust, I welded the front spindles on my racing mower with it, it can do anything. Fyi the spindles are 2 pieces of 3/4" rod welded at a 90* angle. No bevel grinding, just straight gangsta flux core welding. Never had a problem with a broken/bent spindle and I've used a few sets on different mowers. These things have no suspension and put a ton of stress on the front spindles, but they hold up. Yeah it's suggested to do 1/8" pieces, but I regularly weld 1/4" plates to ---- and 3/4" rod. Oh yeah speaking of 3/4" rod I made a solid rear end for my mower taking the gears out and welding the axle to the ring gear. Cheapass craftsman ftw. That ---- isn't too weak for manifolds.

Getting a used one is a good way to go if you can find it local like on Craigslist.com or a similar site.

I think that you can get set-up with a MIG from sears for $600. You just provide the consumables.
