The major reason why it's not a good idea to do long pulls is because the heat buildup will expand the piston and eventually scuff the cylinder walls.

Even fully built motors can have this problem. Yes even forged pistons expand faster than the steel cylinder walls that they are riding in. Stock pistons expand even faster.

This is were piston-cylinder wall clearances come into. If you make it a little looser, and have adequate cooling capacity then long 5th gear pulls won't be as much of an issue.

Load isn't an issue here it's heat.
