Most engines can't take boost in 5th gear. This luggs the motor too much and overboosts the motor usually. As for the tranny, it might blow too. Especially if you are in 5th, you are going pretty fast. It is possible, but not likely for the tranny to go.

5th gear is not a problem with boost but brett said, it puts more of a load on your engine than anything and lugs it. Which isnt the best thing in the world. As far as blowing the tranny, thats very unlikly, but it could happen, hard launchs 4-8k kills trannys and axles.

i cant see boosting in 5th hurting a trans at all...in my vr4, the only thing that i think might hurt it are my 6k all wheel drive launches....but they're so fun....i cant weight till i find a decent civic to put my ls motor into...anyone know of any cheap *** cars in the nj area?
