Default Fuel Burning question

I was wondering which takes longer to burn, a rich mixture or a lean mixture? I was thinking it would be the rich mixture because there is more fuel in the combustion chamber. But my friend tells me that the lean mixture takes longer to burn, which is it? Thanks.
