Default Weird start problem 94 ex

When the car is cold or left over night its easy to start but seems a bit weaker than usual. After its warmed up it won't fire up, it cranks slow to a point where it won't crank at all. It seems like the battery is weak but it puts out 12v and when it does run the alternator puts out 14v. Also when it won't fire the radio, cluster, clock don't work either and idles like crap like it's gonna die. I've cleaned the tranny ground, thermostat and valve cover ground also. I'm stumped.

welll the battery should put out 12.6

chances are it's shot, which is why when you let it rest it'll fire up, and when the car is running it may not be accepting a charge or somehting to the sort. Use another battery so you can rule that out, unless it puts out 12.6 volts and passes a hydro test.

Otherwise i'd be checking voltage drop across you main cables

I've tried two other batteries so I've ruled that out. Check for voltage drop between main cable? you mean from the postive to fuse box?

right, also the starter cable, and the main ground. Make sure they look good too so you can rule that out. Also try bypassing the wire that goes to the starter. So run the car till it's warm. Normally it doesn't like to start when it's warm, so carefully run a wire from the positive terminal and hold it on the nut for the starter and see what it does. that should answer a lot of questions... good luck

I got the same exact problem, when the car is freshly cold it starts like a brand new car. Then i go for a 20 minute trip and stop the car completely for a couple of minutes and then try to start it again it cranks like 4 times and then the car starts and shakes a little like if it wanted to turn off and then i hit the gas and it starts idling normal. Pisses me off cuz i have no clue what it could be. I have a Optima battery, but my car doesnt have the same problem you have about the radio , clock , etc., not working. Mine just has a problem starting when it's warmed up.

it takes more rotations to start it. Like it makes the cranking sound like 5 times and then it starts up like shaky and ---- like if its going to die out and just shut off.

i had a similar problem on my 92 lx, i bought it off my friend, and when he had it it would start sometimes, and not start sometimes, having alot to do with the weather. i replaced the starter, did nothing, checked the fuel pump, was working fine, but i disconnected the fuel line before i cranked it, and no fuel was gettin there, so take out your fuel pump, and test it, if it works, then put it back, disconect your fuel line to the fuel rail, and crank it, if its not getting gas, re-solder, or replace your main relay, worked perfect after i re-soldered mine.
