yes theres a belt tensioner. It should be a 14mm bolt on the driver side of the engine. Its right next to the waterpump. Its right in the middle horizantally and vertically of all that plastic crap covering the timing belt. It doesnt self tighten

If you have a manual, look it up. It helps cuz it has pictures. If you don't then you are screwd. lol. Anyway after you put the timing belt on you will have to make sure that the bolt for the tensioner is loosen, then get a rachet and turn the crank counter clockwize about three truns, at the same time tighten the tensioner bolt. That will give you enough tension on the timing belt. 98ctr
