Re:LS/Vtec fun
sounds like a plan kevin..
now.,.. keep in mind i've never pulled or even seen a car honda w/o a motor in it so this is all new to me.
question.. harnesses.. is there a plug at the firewall or is it one long cable.
example 1.
ENGINE |-----------| ECU
example 2.
ENGINE |-------|FIREWALL|------| ECU
^^^ is there a plug here or just a grommet?

Re:LS/Vtec fun
2 connectors on each sides of the engine. 3 plugs on the right, and 2 on the left, disconnect those along with a few little others, and you can leave the entire engine harness on the engine when you pull it out.. its the easiest way.
You may want to look into turboedit or ghettodyne for your ls/vtec... you can program it anyway you want, its obd0 and you have that option for boost later down the road.
