LS/Vtec TECH

Ok. Winter has arrived. Im thinkin ls/vtec in my 88 Si.

Where to begin... ok.. this is my idea..

- b18b shortblock (newest i can find)
- b16 head (my understanding is obd0/1/2 is all the same and its the IM and dizzy that are diff..)
- b16a1 (obd0) IM w/ TB and sensors.
- b16a1 (obd0) dizzy
- pr3 (b16 obd0) ecu.?
- cable trans.

i'll have to add what. 3 wires for vtec? everything else should just plug in? Does anyone forsee any problems with that setup?

Re:LS/Vtec fun

besides the mounts and shift linkage, it sounds like everything should be plug and play. i thought it was just two wires for the vtec though?? and is a pr3 really gonna be enough? you will be needing more fuel than just regular b16, hell, if i was you, i would just get an obd1 b16 wiring harness and obd1 ecu and go ahead and upgrade to obd 1, also then you wouldn't have to worry about running extra wires to the ecu :-\

Re:LS/Vtec fun

---- you're right i completely forgot about the pr3 being b16 arg!! maybe a type R ecu? or can I just chip a pr3 w/ b18c fuel tables?

yeah, or just get a little bigger injectors with a vafc :-\

Re:LS/Vtec fun

see now this is gunna be a pain in the ass.

maybe I'll just get a b18b long block. sell the dizzy and IM and get b18a pieces to replace w/ a pr4. :-\

type R ecu?

u need a chipped PR3 ecu

Re:LS/Vtec fun

just get an obd1 harness and you're in there. you could just chip the pr3 like chingro said, but i would just rather have vafc, but that's just me, having an lsvtec over a reg. b18, would be well worth the obstacles you face ;)

Re:LS/Vtec fun

ok ok im a lil confused, how would the obd1 harness help? so i could use a gsr ecu? what about butterfly valves, i dont want to stare at a cel all day long :)

Re:LS/Vtec fun

no, no, no, i was just saying that it will be easier to find obd1 b16 head than it will to find an obd0 head, and instead of finding an obd1 head and making it obd0 compatable, you might as well just get an obd1 harness and ecu (all you would be getting exra would be the harness, cause you have to get a diff ecu anyway you do it), also an advantage of getting a whole new harness would be that you don't have to run extra wires to the ecu, the harness would plug right up like factory.

Re:LS/Vtec fun

hrmm.. but the only things on the head that differ from obd0-1-2 are the IM and dizzy right?
