You will probably want to think about what your first goal is with this engine, and what the final goal may be.
How much power will you be happy with at the beginning?
Or do you want to fully build it up to a specific level and leave it there indefinitely?

You want the approximate cost to build a "good" ls/vtec...
depending on what your definition of "good" is, the approximate cost will be between $0 - tens of thousands of dollars.
