LS/VTEC into a del sol
 

Im just curious, what is an aproximate cost to get a good ls/vtec into a 93 del sol si. Im just wondering what all has to be done, and if this is going to be my first swap, if i can do it myself. More importantly though, whats a high estimate of me doing this? Is this going to be a reliable daily driver, even turbo'd?

Also, what are the major components to this, and their individual costs? Thanks, any help is apreciated.

Also, is there any way of keeping ac with that setup if i go turbo with it?(more than likely)

if you have no parts for it its going to cost you upwords to $4000 if built right. you can do 2 things.
either:
1) buy a B16A2/A3 for $2500 for the complete swap. get a B18B longblock for $600 and get hte shift linkages and all the mounts you need, $200. This is the cheaper way of building it and you still need rods and pistons to go into the B18B block.

2) Buy a B18C1 (GSR) full swap for $3500- 3800. Buy a B18B long block for B18B for $600 and i think jeff is using a LS crank with GSR rods and pistons (i dont remember). Then buy all the mounts ETC $200.

now as for turbos with A/C Is possable but is a bitch. a turbo takes alot of room right there and it pokes out almost to the fins on the condencer. Most of hte time you need that space so the A/C comes out. but for the $4k you can get a good solid LS/VTEC and some turbo parts (if not all) and the block should be posted/pinned.

What motor is in the del sol right now? If it already has the B16 in it you won't have that many costs.. As for all the prices that were listed in the other post i would shop around big time before spending that much.. I baught a GSR engine complete ( full top and bottom end ) for 1500 CDN and i have vin proof it wasn't stolen.. then i paid 125 bucks CDN For a B18A1 engine tranny axles shift linkage wire harness computer and so on.. That was also not stolen but out of a wrecked teg.. So i Would seriously look hard for prices before starting anything. that way you don't get bent over the first time.

ok first of all, i want a gsr engine for 1500, tell me where! lol

secondly. onyx, are u on some crack?!?!

if he bought a b16 COMPLETE swap so u say then a ls LONGblock. he would not need rods/pistons, they should be in the long block. also he doesnt neeed a complete b16 swap, just the head. and intake manifold.

if he were to buy a GSR swap there would be NO point of getting a ls block to make it a ls/vtec cuz thats what the gsr is!

if u want an LS/Vtec go get a LS block and a b16a2 top end (head, intake manifold, dist etc.) then get a gsr ecu, your linkage (out of a vtec delsol) and axles from the same. done.

I mearly quoted what i have seen prices solidly go from places on the net. Just becouse you can get a B16 swap for $300 in your area doesnt mean everyone can get it at that price. You will have to have a hydro clutch with that car as well so that ups the price. If you can get B16A2's that are less than the $2500 people want for them then send them my way.

hehe.... why dont you get an ITR motor, get rid of that useless bottom end, and use the far superior B18A/B bottom end...... ::)

If you have the $$ for a complete GSR swap, do yourself and the honda community a favour, and stick with a GSR block.

Unless you want to be Fast and Furious approved.

I wouldn't mind a "built" gsr motor, but im just thinking of in terms of me rebuiling the motor myself and learning on the ls/vtec. Then, if i want to swap it in or my motor blows, i will. I wan't somethine more reliable than the d-series bottem end.(already went through 2). I dunno, it was just some food for thought. Thanks for the replies guys, that really is a lot of usefull info. Exactly, haha.... thats why the advice of buying a complete GSR swap and swapping blocks with an LS seemed to.... well, how should I put it... ignorant advice.

Next stop: Buy a complete NSX swap, and use an old school legend 2.7L bottom end.... :)
