GSR cams with a big fat turbo should still be making power at 9500. Not the "best" cam in hp per psi bullshit terms, but not a bottleneck which is all that matters. If you are looking for a pump gas tune in the 400-450 whp range they'll do fine.

LS motors aren't meant to be revved that high because the stock LS cams start to choke the engine in the 6000-6500 rpm range... and past 8000 rpms the LS rocker arms are prone to flying off due to design (SR20 boys have a rocker arm keeper they use to sidestep this problem, they have a very similar rocker arm setup to the LS). But, this means nothing because you don't have an LS cylinder head. The crank is balanced just fine, like everything else B-series powered out of the Civic/Integra line (Prelude B20A is just scary)... some of the balla boys get skeered to take NA engines over 9200-ish with stock sleeves which is why you see a lot of stock or near-stock size sleeved blocks in the $$$$ NA builds. But that is for all B-series and not just LS.

Somebody made a comment in xenocron's LS/VTEC thread in General Discussion about a high rate of B18A block sleeve failures Which I've never heard but you might want to look into. It might just be a reflection on the sort of parts and work that goes into an old engine someone sourced on the cheap and builds on a shoestring budget vs what the kids who can afford shiny newer cars and big budgets get. Or it could be a genuine flaw in the B18A blocks. *shrug*

I hope not, I plan to use stock sleeves, can afford sleeves, no one in Germany is qualified to install performance sleeves, and the cost too much to do a shitty job. so blockgaurd and hone it is.

Sleeve installation isn't that hard of a job. They bore the stockers out, and press the new ones in with a slight interference fit (ASSuming open deck Dartons, known good to 750 whp). Just have to keep things clean, and make sure there is a clean + precise lip at the bottom of the block for the sleeve to be pressed against or else that's when sleeves sink.

You need to find a competent machine shop, and the Darton open deck + open deck "flanged" sleeves go for $200-250 on eGay or from a reputable dealer. Ingram's Machine charges $450 for install of open deck units if you bring the sleeves to them, David Ingram (and his father before him) has a solid rep on the domestic stuff regionally and has two sleeved Honduh blocks locally (D16Z6 w/ GT28RS been running around for six months now, and H22 I'm supposed to tune "next week" for two months now), and will probably get more of them in the future.

I will probably wait till I get some steady cash flow and send it to get some golden eagle godzilla sleaves, I dont trust these German machinists, they will ---- up a hone job, incompetent and charge too much, I got charged 350 euros to bore my cylinders .20 over thats about $430 and they put a big mark in the walls that looks like a crack, and messed up the deck surface, so I leak oil from the head gasket, cant deck the block anymore. I dont trust these *******.

That scares me that they cant even bore a block as it is pretty straight forward stuff.I have been doing my first year and I wouldnt hesitate to do my own if I could at school.JD are the sleeves you referring to the mid kit?I see the mid kits listed most places for $500 ish but I was cruising a few sites and I see flanged sleeves for 50-75 a piece?Im having a tough time deciding what to do for my LS/Vtec Im putting together as Im aiming for 400whp and would like some insurance for my tuning as I'm 500 miles away from anyone else that could help.I have limited tuning skills as I tuned my D16 with Tuebo Edit on the street but that was a 200hp T25 not a Holset powered LS/Vtec motor.

Darton sleeves come in: open deck "drop-in" replacement (still much thicker than stock), open deck "flanged" replacements, and the old skool closed deck units which look pretty much the same as the newer MID sleeves so I think it's just a marketing gimmick and buzzword. RLZ stated the open deck units were known good to 750 whp, the closed deck units for a bit more than that. The voice of experience.

The drop-ins or flanged sleeves run $200-250 for a set of four, MID go for $500-550.

You get a lot of brand-loyalty, but well manufactured and precision machined ductile iron liners are not rocket science in today's era of wierd alloy craftmanship. So pick whatever, I just know the most about the Dartons, probably because the open deck liners are mad cheap.

FYI: these are the Darton (flanged?) units that went in Wes' CRX:

yes we do have DIY shops on post, but not for machine work, honing yes boring no. hydro press, lift, engine stand, sand blaster, welder, tires, paint boot, etc, but no machining tools. and I have most of those at home so I dont even go there they charge $5 anhour to use the equipment, I volunteer there so I get free hours. and when I am completely out of the army I will work there.
