Re: Honda V6 engines (is it worth the effort)
Dude if your a mechanical engineer then why not take a crx or delslow shell and one of those v6 motor and make a mid rear track car cage and all stripped down to the paint. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think you can use any fr the obd1 tuning software thats out for controling injectors and spark I'd say walbro 255 and an fmu...Or mega squirt.
Ive heard some people say those older v6's have cast iron sleeves so go for it !!!!!!!

Re: Honda V6 engines (is it worth the effort)
well, im not going for a existing chassis for the simple reason that it is always a compromised chassis. It's made for cheap production, good handling and also a comforable ride. Its far from optimal and it is probably more work than building my own chassis.
Also, i find it a nice challange to design and build my own chassis, simulate it and fine tune it.
The car will be like this:Tubular chassis, Mid engined, all the weigth in the centre line of the car (so shocks, springs etc etc in the middle and lenght of the car like most supercars), suspention will be a unequal, non-parrallel double wishbone suspension (no roadcar has this because the ride on the streets will be terrible, its 100% for a flat track. It reacts great to bodyroll but terrible on bumps in the road.
Im serious to build it full race, i don't want to compromise anything so i won't buy a standard chassis.
I just want to know what the possibilities with these V6's are. Does anybody know them quite well.
PS: A k20 engine is not very rare overhere, just expensive, so over my buget (im in the netherlands) btw, the ariel atom has a supercharged K20 engine.....:P:P
For those who still don't know what im planning to create....well here are 2 short movies, one of the ariel atom, one of the westfield XTR2. I must say, when i was in england for the formula student cup with our university, i had the oppertunity to take the atom for a lap arond the track...its amazing ! its faster around the track than a porsche carrera GT, just a bit slower then a enzo.
Now im not expecting to get this kind of numbers with my car....but it is definatly going to be impressive.

Re: Honda V6 engines (is it worth the effort)
i have always been looking at the borg turbo from the GM savana as a good turbo for a V6 honda...
it has twin V clamp turbine inlets !!!! Yeah! one for each manifold! and it's able of 400 WHP.

Go for it man. I had the right idea.. I just didn't get that you were making the entire chassie yourself..Id like to see you use one of those v6 motors just because Ive never heard of anyone turbocharging them. torque monster.

If im going for it it will probably be a twin turbo setup...its easier. maybe a twin turbo T3 or so ??

Re: Honda V6 engines (is it worth the effort)
So if you already know what you're going to do about a chassis....what are you asking?
Yes, the V6 engines are good candidates for boost for the simple fact that they're 6cylinders and probably low compression. If there's a mechanical weakness in the motor, aftermarket parts can solve that. If there are none available, make some phone calls and I garuntee you that you will be able to find a company that can make you a one off set, but probably for a large price.
