you aren't supposed to run thick oil in honda trannies, you're supposed to run 10w-30.

My tranny is about to die, it growls and i can feel it through the shifter. It was low on oil because it leaked : ( oh well, it's a cx tranny anyways

Re:gear grinding

i just decided to check my fluid level in my tranny and it took almost a whole quart of 10w30 :o, i guess thats why it has been so hard to get into second and when i woul djiggle the shifter in neutral i would hear it clunking around in the tranny. it's a dx tranny anyways and i have a new ex one i'm about to put in once it warms up.

who gives a ---- what weight you use? it really isnt gonna make 2 fucks off a difference ask a mistabone or anyone that knows anything, thicker oil isnt going to hurt a tranny

are you sure about that? I don't see a difference in running thicker oil and overfilling with oil, and i have heard overfilling oil can damage things. So how could putting in too thick of oil not hurt the gears, especially if it was cold weather. Just looking for a clear explanation.

Re:gear grinding

thicker oil, esp. GEAR OIL will kill a tranny........

The oil ended up not making it into the roller bearings under the gearsets. Smoked them.

3rd gear grinds on a 88-00 SOHC Tranny, cure is in this order

shifter bushings, motor mounts, 1-2 shifter fork.

If you have a 4th gear grind also, then likely you broke 3-4 shifter fork. I've only seen two of these.
