honda tranny oil is your prob, to thick

i had a 3rd gear grind when i first stuck in my Si tranny
put honda oil in it grinded 3rd everytime any rpm and sometimes 4th

drained it, stuck in pennzoil synchromesh and now it shifts like honey

its a temp fix but it will work

Really? I have a hellish 3rd gear grind followed by a slight 4th gear grind. I'm running some GTX 10w-30 in it. You think a different oil will actually fix that? It was running on some thick ass gear oil before I got it(previous owner didn't know any better).

Mine has that nasty 3rd gear grind too. I haven't changed the oil in a while, so i think i'll do that when all this damn snow melts and see if it helps any. Would slightly thicker be better?

yea it helped, the 3rd gear grind was so bad it would do it as low as 2000 rpms and even after pressing the clutch multiple times and waiting to stick it in gear and it was a ROUGH grind, honda oil is super thin and the basically the gear oil is great for getting the tranny to slow down and getting the synchros to do their job better, or thats the guess, ive been running it about 10k now, works great

ive also heard good stuff about other synchromesh oils, espically in chattery LSD trannys

My cars wouldnt be right without a 3rd gear grind. I destroy them so fast I have really just given up. I have so many dead L3's
