This happened to me, first to my 5th gear, then 4th and later even 3rd.
My tranny had ran out of oil, my friend who helped me swap my tranny forgot to replace it!!!
I'm 98% positive that's it. By the way, according to my local Honda dealer all 5 speed transmissions take regular 10w 30

It’s not low on oil. I did a "flush" with 10W30 for 10miles then filled it with Honda MTF. It did with the 10W30 and the Honda MTF and both times it took the 2 quarts it’s supposed to hold and overflowed.
By the way, according to my local Honda dealer all 5 speed transmissions take regular 10w 30
All Honda manual transmissions can use it temporarily but the manual suggest replacing it with Honda MTF as soon as possible. I used 10W30 until the syncros got pretty sloppy then put in GM Synchromesh with FM and got quite a few more miles out of it then it started to sound like there were marbles in the tranny then I replaced tranny.
