Default ------- trans pops out of reverse

ok so i have a j1 trans in my 1990 hatch on a b16a. i had a shop instale a quaife in it before i put it in not knowing anything about the trans. they said everything in the trans was good with no probs actually looked newish. well when i put it in it wouldnt go into reverse, well it pops out. so i pulled it back out and took the trans back apart and everything seems fine and u can slick it in when its out of the car but it just doesnt seem to click in when its in the car so i replaced the linkage with hasport same thing

the car has brand new hasport mounts.
has act 6 puck disk
hydro type r flywheel and pressure plate
new axles

ok so when u put it in reverse it never feels like it goes all the way in and when u try to back up it pops out.

need some ideas this is about to drive me crazy

thanks in advance

someone ------- help me

are you putting it in first gear first? there on the same cluster shaft and sometimes it just needs a little "persuasion"

You should be able to feel it go in because there's a detent that keeps it in.
You're not feeling the detent at engagement. I'm wondering if they left something out from the quaif install. That's when it started to happen right? Right after you got it back?

When u put it in gear it feels like it just hits a wall or something. And I never had the trans in my car before the quaife was installed. The cat I bought it off of said it was good but he is not very trust worthy but I got the trans for 150. I have been debating on just buying a new trans or maybe going to a hydro trans. Just lost intrest in fixing it lol. Plus my other car is torn apart doing the tuck and ----
